Samsung has a reputation for creating quality phones that have the ability to do so much in such a small package.
On Wednesday June 17, Samsung hosted a mobile camera immersion event the Gansevoort Meatpacking Hotel alongside National Geographic photographer, Ira Block and lifestyle photographer and famous Instagrammer, Jessica Lehrman. Guests were armed with Samsung’s star phone, the Galaxy S6 and these photographers gave an intimate and very detailed lesson on how to use this smartphone’s excellent camera, a camera that DXO recently named the top performing smartphone camera due to the simple user interface and its crisp images and outstanding lowlight performance.
The first lesson was held by the famous Ira Block where he gave a lesson on how to photograph structures and landmarks as well as how to utilize certain camera functions such as the macro mode on the camera and when to use the HDR mode as well. Ira also went into a step by step tutorial on the various modes of the camera and which one he likes to use the most. Ira even stated that before this phone, he had to carry around giant professional cameras whenever he wanted to go shoot pictures but now by using the Galaxy S6, he is able to take professional level photos at ease and have access to a camera at all times. Then Instagrammer, Jessica Lehrman took over with her personal tutorial of how to use the phone. She recently acquired the phone when she attended the Governor’s Ball NYC the previous weekend and she said that with this camera she was able to take excellent quality photos with extreme ease. She gave a lecture about how there is a mode on the phone that is called selective focus where the camera takes three photos, each photo focusing in on different parts of the photo where the holder can then select which one suits their needs. Along with this, she also gave some tips on how to take the best selfies, a skill that everyone needs to master to survive in the world of social media.
After the demonstrations and tutorials were over, Ira and Jessica hung around the lounge and answered any questions that guests had about certain aspects of the phone’s camera. After a few minutes, guests were asked to join in on a walking tour of The Highline where they would use their new Galaxy S6 to take pictures of their surroundings using the new tricks and tips that they learned earlier. What was particularly special about this tour was that during it guests were able to see Jessica and Ira use their cameras and see them in action. Ira, when he was taking his pictures, explained how he was able to use things such as the natural lighting, shadows, reflections, and things of that nature to get better quality pictures and more interesting pictures. Jessica too explained how she would use her camera to document the ongoing traffic that was happening on The Highline at that particular time and how she is able to play with similar things like lighting and angles to get the best picture possible.
After the tour was over, guests headed back to the lounge where they had a chance to take pictures of the Skyline and the city as well as enjoyed an open bar and the many appetizers such as fried chicken, grilled cheese, and lobster rolls. While experiencing the Galaxy S6 firsthand, it is clear to see why this is such a popular phone and why it is raved about not only for its superior camera but also just overall user friendliness and accessibility. Clearly, the Samsung Galaxy S6 is a strong contender when deciding what type of phone one should get, especially if that person is a fan of taking excellent selfies.
