Rob Gronkowski brought his signature energy to New York Comic Con (NYCC) for the second installment of his “Gronk Geeks Out” series. Following his debut at The National, where he spent hours on eBay Live opening packs of trading cards, the former NFL star turned his attention to the world of comic books.
Gronkowski walked the convention floor dressed as iconic Marvel villain Dr. Doom, adding a playful twist to his appearance and drawing inspiration from Ryan Reynolds’ surprise appearances at conventions.
Gronkowski also discussed the resurgence of the sports trading card market, reflecting on how the hobby has evolved since his childhood. As a collector, he has watched the market grow into a global phenomenon, with collectors chasing rare cards, including one of ones, which are unique cards with only a single copy produced.
“I was trying to get my favorite players, you know, and just see how many cards I can collect of them,” Gronkowski said, recalling what first drew him to collecting.
His appearances on eBay Live have given him an opportunity to share that enthusiasm with other collectors. One memorable moment involved opening an autographed Tom Brady rookie card for a lucky buyer, highlighting the excitement that comes with discovering a rare card. When asked about his dream card, Gronkowski joked that he was still searching for one featuring himself making an iconic pancake block.
Beyond trading cards, Gronkowski spoke about his longstanding love of WWE and his experience stepping into the ring. He reflected on his appearance at WrestleMania 33, where he famously took down Jinder Mahal during the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal.
“I love WWE. There’s no doubt about it. And I’ve always wanted to be in the WWE,” Gronkowski said.
His interest in wrestling memorabilia also extends to his collecting habits, as he expressed interest in finding a rare trading card commemorating that moment in the ring. Gronkowski’s appearance at NYCC followed a busy week that included his appearance at Advertising Week New York alongside DNA Vibe, where he discussed performance, recovery and his partnership with the brand. Reflecting on life after his NFL career, he emphasized the importance of appreciating each opportunity and staying grounded amid a packed schedule.
“What I’m just trying to learn in this life is just to be present, you know, just to enjoy every moment of it,” Gronkowski said.
From sports memorabilia to comic books and professional wrestling, Rob Gronkowski continues to explore the interests that have followed him beyond football, bringing his enthusiasm for collecting and entertainment to fans across different communities.
