NYFW is a term so recognizable and so infamous that you can almost feel the designers’ stress to convey their very best work.
It is a chance for people to rise to stardom and become recognized by many.The Knockturnal attended a series of events in celebration of NYFW, here are just a few.
Vasilis Loizides, is a rising designer who focuses on clothing that is inclusive to all. They aren’t limited to any gender. His spring 2019 presentation was presented at NYFW in Tribeca. His collection was inspired by his native country of Cyprus. It was apparent that being diverse was essential to his work. The models posed against a background of a Cyprus beach.
Multiple pieces were trimmed with large copper-colored poppies; in Cyprus, poppies signify an “eternal sleep,” and copper trade is essential to the history of the island (the word “Cyprus,” in Latin, actually means copper). The floor was littered with pennies.
Christopher Lowman debuted his Spring/Summer 2019 Presentation: The Glorious Olympics, at The James Hotel.
The collection is inspired by the 1980’s Summer Olympics. He mixes street style with luxury fabrics that portray bold colors and patterns. The Glorious Olympics is a take on the Olympics opening ceremonies, remaking it with a modern take by featuring “lambskin leathers mixed with neoprene, mixed media cow hides, golden tricot nylons, pullover’s, tracksuit; all in unique shapes and textures.”
FINI Shoes debuted in 2018 with a goal to introduce luxury aesthetics and quality. It is designed for maximum comfort and durability. It caters for all people for use at anytime in the day. The shoes can also be revamped with multiple add-ons through a “zipper concept”. It can make it seem like a completely new shoe as it can be worn in a variety of ways. These looks range from a flat sneaker to a laced up boot, to a fur trimmed shoe. Their NYFW pop up at Bowery was presented by Bakana Sangria.
Mannequins aligned the room dressed in streetwear, the focus being on the shoes. Fini was launched by Dami Adepoju, is on the brink of making a new wave in the fashion industry. A first generation American designer hailing from Nigeria, Dami’s focus in his designs are both sustainability and versatility.
