Boogie Bakery & Bistro brings a extradniary cuilainary experience uptown to Washington Heights.

Beginning their culinary story in a small kitchen in Croatia, the founders of Boogie Bakery & Bistro grew tired of watching consumers settle for subpar bread. They decided to take matters into their own hands, returning to the fundamentals of traditional breadmaking with just a few essential ingredients: water, flour, and salt. What began as a simple commitment to better bread soon evolved into a larger culinary vision, one rooted in authenticity, craftsmanship, and a passion for creating food that is as delicious as it is thoughtfully made. Now, they’re bringing that same mission to the United States. Introducing their foundational recipes and culinary philosophy to one of uptown Manhattan’s iconic food destinations, Washington Heights, with the opening of Boogie Bakery & Bistro.

Boogie Bakery & Bistro’s commitment to quality extends beyond its approach to breadmaking. The establishment offers an expansive menu designed to take customers on a culinary journey, bringing together vibrant colors, bold flavors, and dishes crafted with care, all emerging from its signature oven.  Each morning, the bakery team begins by preparing its specialty sourdough bread, pastries, focaccia, and pizzas. Building on its artisanal foundation, the menu also features a thoughtfully curated selection of breakfast options, perfect for both a leisurely dine-in experience and those looking for something delicious on the go. Even the classic breakfast sandwich gets a creative upgrade, elevated with fresh ingredients and exceptional flavors. Fresh, flavorful, and thoughtfully prepared, every offering reflects the bakery’s dedication to quality.

And then, there’s the bistro. Stepping inside feels like taking a journey through time. From the warm lighting and circular design to the classic records adorning the walls, every detail creates an atmosphere that feels both luxurious and wonderfully familiar. For me, it was a beautiful balance of stepping into another world while still feeling right at home. Let’s just say that once I walked through the doors, it was nearly impossible to leave without wanting to try everything on the menu.

Speaking of the menu, as the plates began arriving at our table, my guest and I were greeted with a collection of flavors that I still can’t stop thinking about. Our delightful and wonderfully knowledgeable waiter guided us through some of his personal favorites, and I must say, I wasn’t disappointed with a single dish that emerged from the kitchen. We began with the bakery’s specialty: its signature sourdough bread. Each slice arrived warm, with butter melting ever so slightly across its freshly baked surface. We paired it with a classic Caesar salad, perfectly portioned for sharing. Every bite brought together crisp lettuce and rich, creamy Caesar dressing, creating that familiar yet satisfying combination of flavors. It was safe to say we were off to a wonderful start.

Then came the main course, and this is where the experience truly reached another level. We decided to explore two sides of the menu, ordering the Petit Filet Mignon alongside the Chicken Milanese. Both dishes brought something entirely different to the table, giving us the opportunity to experience the range of flavors and thoughtful preparation that define Boogie Bakery & Bistro’s culinary approach.  The Petit Filet Mignon, served with thin, crispy fries, was an absolute explosion of flavor. The steak was cooked beautifully, with each cut offering a tender, melt in your mouth experience. Rich, satisfying, and packed with flavor, it was the kind of dish that makes you slow down and appreciate every bite. And just when I thought the plate couldn’t get any better, there were the mashed potatoes. Creamy, smooth, and wonderfully indulgent, they were the perfect accompaniment to the steak.

The Chicken Milanese offered an entirely different but equally memorable experience. Paired with a balsamic-dressed blend, the dish brought together beautiful textures and flavors in every bite. The crispness of the chicken balanced wonderfully with the freshness of the accompanying ingredients, while the balsamic dressing added a delicious depth that tied everything together. It was a dish that felt both comforting and elevated.  Between the two entrees, every plate offered something worth remembering. What impressed me most was the attention to detail, from the preparation of the proteins to the sides that completed each dish. If the beginning of our meal had already won us over, the main course sealed the deal. It was, without question, one of the most extraordinary culinary experiences I’ve had in a long time.

Finally, as our meal came to an end, but there was still room for one last surprise in the form of dessert. We started with the chocolate mousse, a rich, velvety treat topped with delicate chocolate shavings. Every spoonful delivered the perfect balance of sweetness and deep chocolate flavor. But one dessert simply wasn’t enough, so we decided to pair it with the caramel cheesecake.  Layered with a mocha coffee cookie crumble and finished with a generous drizzle of caramel, the cheesecake brought together an irresistible combination of textures and flavors. It was the perfect sweet ending to an already memorable meal. And just when we thought the evening couldn’t get any sweeter, the wonderful staff surprised us on our way out with a mysterious little bag. Once home, we opened it to discover a beautiful assortment of freshly baked pastries. Needless to say, I was already looking forward to enjoying them with my morning coffee!

All said and done, Boogie Bakery & Bistro delivered one of the most memorable culinary experiences I’ve had in a long time. From its dedication to traditional breadmaking and thoughtfully crafted menu to its inviting atmosphere and exceptional hospitality, every detail felt special.  If you’re looking for a little taste of culinary heaven uptown, Boogie Bakery & Bistro deserves a spot on your must visit list. Come hungry, and don’t leave without trying something sweet!
