This is the first time that the notorious Fotografiska New York is showcasing a single-solo artist’s works throughout the whole museum!
Legendary Photographer and Director David LaChapelle, will be exhibiting over 150 works, spanning his four decades of work. The notorious artist has created some of the most notoriously iconic pop culture photographs, with our favorite pop icons such as Andy Warhol, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Elton John, Lil’ Kim, Tupac, Britney Spears, David Bowie, and many more!
The museum’s premiere featured model and celebrity photographs that were were neon surrealisms, with storylines and plots, and religious references in some, amongst over masterpieces throughout the floors. Artists, fashion editors, and muses such as the famous model, Amanda Lepore, depicted as Marilyn Monroe in his work, walked the red carpet to show support.
On the red carpet, LaChapelle shared his full circle moment of that evening with me – “it feels great to be back in New York. I had my very first show when I was 21, a block away, so coming back now has been pretty incredible.” From his first show, to a museum-wide exhibition, LaChapelle stays ambitious and goal-oriented saying, “the list is always going, I still have lots of people that I want to photograph. Do all kinds of…I’m not done yet.” We’re glad to hear that, and we definitely look forward to witnessing the magical and inspiring next decades of exemplary and legendary work from the artist.
