At the 64th Annual BMI Pop Awards, songwriter/producer Jason Evigan was honored for his work on Nick Jonas’ “Chains” and Kelly Clarkson’s “Heartbeat Song.”
A few other notables songs Evigan worked on included Jason Derulo’s “Talk Dirty,” Fifth Harmony’s “Miss Movin’ On,” Demi Lovato’s “Heart Attack,” David Guetta’s “Dangerous,” and Jonas’ latest single “Champagne Problems.”
We already know that Britney Spears has new music in the works. RCA’s Joe Riccitelli spoke about the project with Billboard on May 11. Then Sony Music Germany accidentally posted on its web site that Britney would be releasing a song called “Make Me” on May 20. Now we know that top songwriter Jason Evigan has also worked on the project. He told The Knockturnal exclusively on the red carpet:
I just finished working on a bunch of Britney Spears stuff which is actually really, really awesome. She’s such a great artist. So we’ve got new stuff coming with her. Got some Nick Jonas … I’ve got a bunch on the new Jonas album which I’m really excited about. Working with David Guetta right now on his new stuff and Derulo.
How do you feel being here on this special night with so many amazing artists?
Jason Evigan: I feel humbled, honored, it’s crazy. It’s awesome. It’s like high school, kind of, because we all know each other, we all work together, we all come here and have a good time and hang out and celebrate what we did last year. Hopefully, next year is going to be amazing, too.
Where is the music industry heading now?
Jason Evigan: I think it’s at an exciting place. If you look at the charts, there’s always something that’s weird and cool and different right now. It’s not cookie-cutter right now so I feel it’s an exciting time for writers to be able to really explore new sounds, new melodies. Just have fun with it. For the past year I’d say the top five songs have all been like, “Whoa, that’s amazing. That’s actually something I would listen to.” That’s cool.
