Film Review: ‘Vacation’ Starring Ed Helms and Christina Applegate

The Knockturnal was invited to  Warner Bros Screening Room to preview the film ‘Vacation’ before it hits theaters! Check out what we thought.

I have to admit that I was suspicious walking into the theatre as I thought this would be another unoriginal blockbuster comedy with the same story line,  same one race cast, and same style like every other movie. However, Vacation directed by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley left me walking out of the theatre pleasantly surprised.

Somewhat thrown off at first by the crude language, Vacation is very much a film made in 2015 and for the 2015 audience – although my mother would not get some of the jokes. Clarification: this film is for the younger generation of 2015.  Vacation starring Ed Helms, Christina Applegate and Regina Hall, initially based on John Hughes’ short story, “Vacation 58″and following in the footsteps of National Lampoon’s Vacation, will leave you in stitches grabbing your neighbor to save you from your laugh attack. We watch as Helms’ character Rusty Griswold tries so desperately to bring his family together by planning a trip to America’s “favorite family fun park,” Walley World. Of course things go awry and that’s were the fun begins.

Even though this film is rated R for crude, sexual content, and language throughout and brief graphic nudity, there are very few films that can successfully touch on the topics of  social media, gender fluidity and equality of the sexes in a tasteful way. Vacation wraps all of those topics and more in a nice slapstick bow. This film takes the audience on a non stop laughing trip. Vacation is a must see!

It hits theaters July 29, 2015.
