Ahead of the mid-season premiere of season 2 of Happy’s Place, I spoke to executive producers Kevin Abbott and Pamela Fryman for an exclusive conversation.
Now halfway through its second season, Happy’s Place brings the laughter, joy, and nostalgia that fans love with a standout cast consisting of dynamic duo Reba McEntire and Melissa Peterman alongside Belissa Escobedo, Rex Linn, and more.
The show follows Bobbie McAllister (McEntire) who inherits a bar from her father and soon after finds out that she shares ownership with her long lost sister Isabella (Escobedo). Hilarity ensues as they navigate this new business relationship with the help of bartender Gabby (Peterman) and cook Emmett (Linn).
“When we set out to do a show with Reba and Melissa we knew we wanted to keep their magic and chemistry but tell a totally different story than we did on Reba,” said Abbott. “So we brought in these new characters to have a different focal point and it’s a total reinvention.”
The show also tapes each episode in front of a live studio audience, which is rare these days. “As great as rehearsals are, when you take that same scene and you put that live audience on stage, there’s nothing like it. The electricity is just remarkable,” said Fryman.
Happy’s Place airs Fridays at 8pm ET / 7pm CT on NBC, with episodes on Peacock the next day.
