The West Chelsea Contemporary gallery in New York City is hosting the first-ever solo exhibition for the artist Blek Le Rat.

Blek Le Rat is well known for his unique designs and stencil work. His artistic journey began in the streets of Paris, and his work has influenced street art and the graffiti movement. The entire debut will showcase many of his diverse creations, including new prints. Blek’s designs represent various elements, such as socio-political commentary, classical art, and historical figures. His creations alternate between bright colors and black-and-white shades depending on the artistic vision. Blek’s pieces offer art enthusiasts multiple images that will stimulate various emotions balanced by the environment created.
Blek has been dubbed the Father of Stencil Graffiti due to his international art designs that have spanned over four decades. During his 40-year career, his work has been seen in various city’s around the world and has now graced the walls of the West Chelsea Contemporary gallery. The Knockturnal attended the exhibition and saw some of the never before seen art pieces. In addition to the viewing, street artist Blansky was in attendance and credited his success and creativity to Blek’s influence. The evening ended with a collaboration with artist Taki 183. He tagged a canvas that included one of Blek’s stencil designs, allowing both artists’ aesthetics to blend and create a new piece.
The exhibition began on August 20th and will run until September 25th.
