We stepped into Prince’s magical and creative world at the Chelsea Hotel in NYC!
I didn’t know where to look first when we arrived. There were two sides of the room that displayed Prince’s electric guitar, coats, heels, blazers, pearls, and much more. One of my person favorite pieces was witnessing Mr. Purple Rain’s binder of purple fabrics that were full to the brim with different samples of hues for him to choose from.
We were in the presence of Prince’s photographs, writing and favorite items that have been in the vault for over two decades. The Parisian owner of the collection, Bertrand, has hunted down the unique and rare items for years at previous auctions and decided to show Prince fans the one-of-a-kind items at the auction. It was an absolute honor to experience what seemed like Prince’s personal museum, that easily confirmed what an artistic icon he was.
“The auction will preview the legendary musician’s most iconic stage outfits including his white ruffled shirt and brooches worn during his triumphant 1985 AMA performance of Purple Rain, his screen-worn outfit and cashmere coat from Under the Cherry Moon, and his stage-worn gold chain hat from the 1993 Act II tour, among many others.
As the career of Prince evolved, so did his wardrobe, which is exhibited in this extensive collection of stage-worn outfits, photo-matched everyday chic, accessories, and jewelry. Fabric swatches, concept sketches, and clothing patterns from his iconic eras including Purple Rain, Lovesexy, Parade, and Sign ‘O’ the Times were procured from his various fashion designers.
In addition to fashion, this event includes original Polaroid photographs, master tapes of his hit albums, and official documentation pertaining to his films and music videos,” according to the press release.
