The FADER and vitaminwater Kick Off #Uncapped 5th Anniversary 5 Night Event Series
On Tuesday – Sept 29 FADER Magazine teamed up with vitaminwater kicking off its 5th year anniversary of their award-winning #Uncapped music event series in New York City – 5 years, 5 nights, 5 shows. For the past five years, FADER has celebrated today’s up-and-coming musical talents through the #Uncapped stage while honoring those of the past at the same time. Night ONE, for sure, set things up nicely for the week with the sounds of Power 105.1’s DJ Envy and Miss Info on hosting duties, a surprise guest appearance by the Breakfast Club’s Angela Yee, who walked in right behind me; and two awesome performances by “Don’t Kill the Fun” singer Sevyn Streeter and #uncapped veterans Matt and Kim – whom by the way, found themselves a definite new fan in this music enthusiast right here.
Songstress, Sevyn Streeter took the stage just around 8PM where she belted six of her singles including fan-favorites “It Won’t Stop” and “Don’t Kill the Fun”; followed by a cover rendition of Tory Lanez’s “Say It”. Quite the performer, Sevyn was accompanied by two back-up dancers, showcasing her impressive dance skills to compliment her amazing voice. Later, Sevyn made her way through the event space, taking pics and whatnot with fans and event goers – such a cool chic.
Matt and Kim made their grand entrance as the #uncapped vets, performing back in 2012 alongside rapper Nas, who I heard had no clue who they were prior to their performance, but like me, left the #Uncapped stage, a new fan. With Matt on the mic and Kim on drums, the crowd was ever entertained as the duo dropped some non-stop energy between originals like “Overexposed”, “Hey Now”, “Daylight” and “It’s Alright”, they also had us going with classic DMX cover “Party Up” and Biz Markie’s “Just a Friend”. If they weren’t crowdsurfing or performing atop of some drums, they were doing acrobatic stunts like hanging from the ceiling – giving a new meaning to the term crowd control.
The rest of the week is packed with more goodies and performances, so be sure not to miss it. Keep it locked on THE KNOCKTURNAL for coverage of the remaining four nights.
