The Knockturnal was honored to sit at the feet of highly accomplished art activists and trailblazers. While listening front row on the importance of African-American art, and its impact on our planet, thanks to Martell’s revival of Loïs Mailou Jones’s work and philosophy, the rebirth of the Little Paris Group came to fruition! Aiming to produce mentorship in modern-day popular art, a meeting of the minds, and magic, took place on Wednesday, March 23, 2023, in Brooklyn, New York at the Bishop Gallery. Headlining this revival was none other than the eclectic, aristocratic singer, and actress, Janelle Monáe!
On Tuesday, February 21st The Knockturnal received a very warm, and nostalgic welcome from the antique, and yummy cocktail bar, “Lost Spirits“ in lower Manhattan. Whether it’s after work, hosting a party, or just grabbing a quick bite, this tiered cocktail bar has everything you need, for anything you have planned ahead. So feel free to unwind, dine, or just have a good time!
The venue was an intimate all white space, with a non-traditional flow including two nooks for press. This also made the audience feel like they were apart of the show instead of onlookers. The bare runway allowed viewers to experience every color, texture, accessory and mood of each piece. Some audience favorites and runway highlights were; the pink high waisted cargo gown skirt, the white lace shirt dress, the lazer-cut confection dresses, and the multi beaded lace bodice crepe gown. The accessories were refined, subtle statement pieces and embellishments that complemented and highlighted each look. Every element of a timeless, elegant allure was observed in “Hotelito” . There were beaded sequined party looks, and flirty feminine summer cut outs. Plunging necklines, thigh high splits, and off the shoulder gowns serving just the right amount of skin. Greatness was in all aspects of this line especially in the thoughtful details!

The Knockturnal sends a big thank you to all the brilliant minds that took part in creating such a polished, well-bred, celebration of the 2022 Kentucky Derby! On May 7th, at the Whatever Forever Food Hall, Old Forester partnered with the Lito Creative marketing group to promote Old Forester’s Mint Julep Bourbon by bringing the Kentucky Derby‘s iconic themes, and customs to Brooklyn, New York.
Respectfully adding a Brooklyn flair to a century of derby traditions and culture, this upscale Kentucky Derby viewing party consisted of a beautiful, warm lounge, filled with black leather, walnut oak decor, and a rockin’ DJ. Perfect for taking the chill off of a dreary day! Invitees were encouraged to wear a derby hat (an essential staple in derby fashion) along with debonair accoutrements to match. Upon arrival guests were greeted with a complimentary Mint Julep, the derby’s customary drink.
Every table top was garnished with an elegant bouquet of roses, symbolic of the Winner of the races being covered in flowers celebrating the victor Rich Strike. In addition to the sweet smelling roses. The customized artwork of Amorous Abyss was on display. Amorous Abyss is famously known for his art and the way it highlights moments of intimacy, and appreciation illustrated by using flowers, and a thoughtful quote.
With vibes as smooth as the drinks, and atmosphere. Old Forester‘s partnership with Lito’s brilliant Creative advertising team, turned into an exciting social event for a day at the races. Especially for Kentucky Derby goers who found themselves far from home.
