Nolcha Shows remains one of the strongest and freshest platforms for indie/independent fashion designers. They featured 8 runway shows for the Fall/Winter 2018 season at Mercedez Benz Manhattan.
On February 11th, at 4 pm, three designers showcased their diverse collections. First on the runway was Lavanya Coodly. Her line included some unique handcrafted men’s & womenswear.
Here are the top three looks from the Lavanya Coodly Collection. The music at the showcase was strong and memorable. When the models started coming onto the runway, the music was classical and it developed into a more modern vibe, and the designs changed from elegant to more casual. These three looks though different in color and style share an elegance that stood out on the runway. The whole collection left the audience in rampant applause. It was a different, elegant and unique showcase.
The second showcase was the Steven Crash collection. This showcase was an experience. It started with a couple of futuristic, white, outer-space inspired looks. The music matched the outfits as it started out with an otherworldly vibe and developed into a more darker vibe. The last look (the long black dress) was a standout. Quite literally, everyone watching; gasped.
The dress complemented the model and vice versa. The dress was breathtaking and the model was equally mesmerizing. It was the most perfect way to end the the showcase. Similar to the first showcase, the music playing’s relationship to the designs was crucial to the overall vision of the designer and collection.
The last showcase was by Stevenson University. Each design showcased was made by a student from that university. It was the most diverse and eclectic showcase as every design was completely different and personal to the designer. At the end of the showcase, every student walked with their model across the runway. It was a beautiful moment to see the pride in the designer’s faces and the sense of accomplishment for both the models and designers.
Overall, the Nolcha Shows proved its uniqueness and its commitment to supporting independent fashion by giving these designers a platform and an opportunity. All the designs showed something different and immense promise to what the future of fashion holds.
