The Samsung Galaxy S6 is amazing.
This year, Samsung improved on everything, from the drop dead gorgeous screen to the top notch camera. The S6 retains the same size as last year’s S5 with the 5.1 inch screen size, but amps up the resolution. From the 1080×1920 resolution from the S5 last year to the now mind blowing QHD Super AMOLED 2560×1440 on the S6, bringing a whopping 577ppi (Pixels Per Inch). The screen is killer, colors are vivid and not too over saturated. Text is crisp and clear and looking at this phone is a pleasure.
The next big change to the S6 is the design. Samsung is infamous for using plastics all over their phones and other gadgets. The S6 jumps off this trend with a new premium design. The screen and the back are covered in Corning Gorilla Glass 4 and the perimeter of the phone is wrapped in a stylish aluminum band. This is a huge departure from their plastic phones that many times turned people away from the Galaxy phones.
Next on the list of improvements is the camera. Out of all the android cameras, Samsung was usually at the top, and the S6 is no different. The 16 megapixel rear facing camera takes crisp, vivid pictures, and is truly the best camera on an android phone thus far. Low light pictures come out nearly perfect and well lit shots are full of vibrant colors and crisp lines.
The S6 also runs Android 5.0 lollipop out of the box and features Samsung’s own Touchwiz on top of that. Previous versions of the galaxy phones have featured tons of Samsung bloatware and unneeded apps but with the S6, they have been removed. With the Exynos 7420 octo-core processor, running the phone is a breeze. The Exynos octo-core processor features the big.LITTTLE architecture which contains a low powered A53 – 1.5 GHz processor which is used when low performance is needed, like reading a book or surfing the web. It also contains a high powered A57 – 2.1 GHz processor which kicks in when gaming or doing other high performance tasks. This architecture optimizes power efficiency for better battery life. Because of this insane processor, there is virtually no lag on the phone. Previous Galaxy phones occasionally suffered from dips in performance, but not the S6. This phone zipped through everything, a big step forward in power.
A few neat features also included in the S6 are fast charging, which usually takes a little more than an hour to go from 0% to 100% battery, Qi enabled wireless charging, and a newly revamped fingerprint sensor. The new fingerprint sensor is a big improvement from the S5. Previously, the fingerprint sensor required the finger to be swiped down, but now the sensor will pick up the fingerprint with a touch of the button. It’s a lot easier to use and a lot quicker to unlock.
Overall, the S6 has broken away from a lot of norms that Samsung has made. The screen is stunning, the design feels so much more premium, the camera is the best out there, and performance is top notch. Samsung really knocked it out of the park this year and is recommended to anyone looking for a new phone this year. Shout out to Samsung for giving us the phone!
