Fanciful 70’s gypsy meets 2015 drama with Rachel Zoe’s spring/summer 2016 collection, shown in Chelsea, New York on September 13, 2015.
Fashion TV phenom and clothier-to-the-stars Rachel Zoe has probably never had a show that wasn’t inspired by the jet set. I’m talking about a group of unexplainably wealthy, strikingly unconcerned, and dramatically chic people … they seem authentic, they seem to understand culture by their own doing, but, of course, the giveaway is the layer of makeup so exquisite and maintained, that it becomes clear they emerged from chauffeured cars or maybe a vespa. These people mean business – iced vodka and caviar; maybe a jaunt through the woods in heels later – type business. In this way, Rachel is simply being a good businesswoman.
Rachel Zoe knows this crowd like the back of her hand. She caters to them, like everyone else does, while playing friend at the same time. Zoe’s clothing is always clean, approachable from a distance, but seems too delicate when near. This year, is no different. Zoe plays into the world of the ‘Gypset’, a typical jet set type, aforementioned, but with an extra scoop of bohemian thrown in. What you get is embroidery in off-whites, beiges, vanillas and bone (all different colors), gold detailing, gold sequins, gold jewelry, straight-lined haircuts that say “it looks like an 8 year old did it, but it was actually $400”, roman flats, tweed elements, a material that moved like a paper lunch bag, crinkly and spooky. Of course, thanks to Gucci’s new direction, the presence of rattan-like lace and tassels were on full display, along with gentle small lace and lots of off-the-shoulder. Everyone should be this chic.
The show was a mix of presentation and runway, energetic and crowded, well illuminated and fueled by FIJI water of all sizes- some even came with straws! The set itself was either NYC penthouse terrace or Hollywood backyard, with low privet hedges and gleaming white floors.
