Mathieu Mirano was inspired by the Amazon after a recent trip to the destination with his family.
He referenced the rain forest with the color and the movement in the dresses for his spring collection. The product was bold and high energy. Anyone who wears it would stand out in the crowd.
The designer who has dressed Lady Gaga paired unlikely materials with cool colors for this collection. Velvet is typically presented in dark, jewel tones, but he took the material a step further than its traditional roots. Mirano ombred the fabric and had it spiraling around the body to create a cool marbling effect on the dress. He also worked this cool ombre fabric marbling technique with lighter materials such as chiffon and added sequins for an extra bit of dazzle.
A new concept for this season was that he added a series of separates in this collection to mix and match the tops and skirts to create an illusion of a gown that can be worn in a variety of ways. For the man who has created the most intricate of dresses, this might be the most accessible evening wear yet.
THE LOOK:
Hair:
Redken kindly invited us backstage to see how the models were being prepped for the show.
With Mathieu, his clothes have a lot of colors and a lot of ornate patterns on top of patterns so we wanted the hair to be simple and elegant. Because it would take away from the dresses if we did too much. So he wanted it slicked back, but we wanted a shine, not a wet look, but a very high shine with all back, no part and completely flattened straight. We used Redken Guts 10 on the roots so that pushes the hair back with a blowdrier, so we used a silcone-based product from the mid-shaft to the ends, and then we used Redken Forceful 23 and flat ironed. We clipped it back and sprayed Redken Quick Tease 15 to let it set and go to make up.
Makeup:
The makeup is all about neutral glamour. It’s a cool glamours woman who knows who she is and is able to look effortless, cool and just glamorous and gorgeous at the same time. The clothes are so dynamic and beautiful, we wanted the girl to wear the makeup, not the makeup wearing the girl. The look is achieved with flawless dewy skin, highlight dewyness, a little bit of shimmer, neutral lips, neutral eyes and a tiny bit of neutral contour.
