Last week HBO Latino invited us to their intimate Culture Makers screening.
Last Wednesday, HBO Latino launched their Culture Makers film series in partnership with the NY Latino Film Festival. Culture Makers not only showcases stories through the best new content it incorporates community and culture by moderating Q&As with rising Latin influencers.
The festive evening began with complimentary cocktails courtesy of Puerto De Indias Strawberry Gin. The selection featured three signature cocktails, “Love Wins,” “The American Dream” and “The Dreamer,” inspired by the film of the evening, Aaron Agrasanchez’s Make Love Great Again. Along with creative cocktails, the reception featured traditional Latin dishes like empanadas and guava pastelitos. The bar was also stocked up on traditional Latin candies and chocolates. After an hour of mingling, drinking and photo-taking, the screening began.
Make Love Great Again, directed by Aaron Agrsanchez, stars David Haack as Chris, and Alina Robert as Natalie, an American and a Mexican who fall in love during a pre-presidential Trump America and are forced to prove the credibility of their relationship to two federal agents shortly after getting married. With an expiring student visa and a series of unfortunate events including a meddling family friend, these two college sweethearts must prove that their love isn’t a green card marriage, so to speak. Following the film screening director, Aaron Agrsanchez had a Q&A with designer Hommy Diaz about the themes of the film, the changing political climate, and their multi-faceted identities.
