The LOX brought their story to the Tribeca Festival with the premiere of Trinity: The Story of The LOX, a documentary chronicling the iconic hip hop group’s decades long journey through the music industry.
The Knockturnal caught up with Jadakiss, Styles P, Sheek Louch, and fellow rap legend Raekwon, and director Bill Horace to discuss the film’s origins, themes, and the bond that has kept the trio together for more than 30 years.
For The LOX, the documentary offered an opportunity to share a more personal side of their story than fans have typically seen through interviews and public appearances. The group described the film as a reflection on brotherhood, loyalty, and perseverance, documenting how they navigated the challenges of the music business while remaining united.
“I think it’ll resonate to all different demographics, age groups, ethnic backgrounds if you understand where we came from, where we going, and what we doing,” said Jadakiss.
When asked about bringing everyone together to participate in the project, the trio said the process felt natural given how closely connected they remain in their day to day lives.
Horace said The Story of The LOX was nearly a decade in the making. What began as a short film eventually evolved into a feature documentary as the filmmaker uncovered the depth of the group’s experiences and the significance of their cultural impact.
Horace added that one of the most compelling aspects of the story was exploring the reality that achieving success does not always bring fulfillment. The film examines how the members of The LOX leaned on one another through personal and professional challenges while continuing to evolve as artists and friends.
The documentary also revisits several key moments in the group’s career, including their celebrated Verzuz battle against Dipset, a matchup widely regarded as one of the most memorable events in the livestream series’ history.
Raekwon attended the premiere in support of the group, and spoke briefly about his own future projects. While he said plans for Only Built 4 Cuban Linx Part III remain uncertain, his focus at the event was on celebrating the accomplishments of his longtime peers.
As the documentary begins its journey beyond Tribeca, Trinity: The Story of The LOX stands as both a look back at one of hip hop’s most influential groups and a portrait of a friendship that has endured through changing eras of the music industry.
