Out Of The Ordinary hosted the JAŸ-Z 30 x D’USSÉ afterparty on July10, crystallizing everything the summer has been about: celebration, legacy, and the undeniable cultural weight of JAŸ-Z.
The JAŸ-Z 30 x D’USSÉ afterparty brought together the city’s most influential voices and tastemakers for a night of high-energy festivities that honored two of Hip Hop’s most pivotal albums from Shawn C. Carter. Guests included Rapper Memphis Bleek, DJ Chase B.,Celebrity stylist, Law Roach, Rapper Lady London Lady London and many more. The setting for the party was an unconventional Manhattan venue that embodied the same rule-breaking energy as Jigga-man himself.

For fans who are new to the world of Shawn Carter, D’USSÉ Cognac is a premium French brand partially owned by JAŸ-Z and produced by Bacardi at the Château de Cognac. It is known for its contemporary, bold flavor profile. D’USSÉ offers two main varieties, both bottled at 80 proof. The D’USSE VSOP (Very Superior Old Pale) cognac are aged for at least 4 years in French oak barrels. Its tasting notes offer smooth texture, medium-bodied taste with warm notes of spices, almond, cinnamon, and subtle accents of honey and dried fruit. VSOP serves as a great base for high-end cocktails. D’USSE XO (Extra Old) cognac is blended from eaux-de-vie (a clear, colorless fruit brandy) aged up to 10 years or more. D’USSE XO is richer in taste and more complex; its dominant flavors include ripe blackberry, apricot, dark chocolate, and walnut. It is best served with a single ice cube in a snifter (also known as a cognac glass or brandy balloon) to allow the complex aromas to open up.

D’USSÉ flowed freely, but it was the CODE30 cocktail, the official drink of the residency, that became the night’s signature. Blended with D’USSE VSOP Cognac, lemon, Amaretto, Pineapple, and soda water, CODE30 served as the welcome tribute drink to three decades of uncompromising artistry. Served in gold and black branded cocktail tumblers, the open bar served additional signature cocktails that included: DEAR SUMMER (D’USSE VSOP Cognac, St. Germain, Guava, Lemon, and Prosecco); D’USSE FROZEN PEACH LEMONADE (a blend of D’USSE VSOP Cognac, Fresh Lemonade and Peach); and D’USSE & LEMONADE (D’USSE VSOP Cognac and fresh lemonade).

What unfolded at the afterparty was more than just another industry event. Guests moved through the space with the kind of ease that only comes when everyone in the room understands that they’re witnessing something significant.
The energy was electric and grounded. There was celebration without pretense, success without desperation, and sips without spills. Guests were lively, enjoying light bites of egg rolls, fried mac and cheese balls, and savory cubed steaks, while singing along and celebrating the historical milestone of 30 years of Hip Hop royalty. Everyone understood the assignment: a celebration like this only comes once in a lifetime. Hip Hop has never seen the likes of an artist invested in their city the way JAŸ-Z invested in New York City; all while remaining in partnership with D’USSE, the first brand he mentions on his album, Reasonable Doubt, 30 years ago. This alignment has authentic culture written all over it.
Conversations ranged from the immediate heat of the concert that preceded the afterparty to the historical context of his tour. Guests reflected on Reasonable Doubt, the initial blueprint JAŸ-Z laid down in this album, and how it became the foundation for everything that followed in his music catalog. It felt less like nostalgia and more like acknowledgment: we’re still in the world JAŸ-Z created 30 years ago.
As the night progressed and the CODE30 cocktails kept coming, one thing became clear: this afterparty wasn’t about excess. It was about gratitude. Gratitude for the culture, for the city that raised it, and for an artist who never forgot where he came from.
This is what legacy looks like when it’s still alive and breathing.
