Peacock rolled out the red carpet in Los Angeles last week for the premiere of The Five-Star Weekend. It’s the streamer’s new limited series based on Elin Hilderbrand’s bestselling novel of the same name. Based on the turnout, it’s safe to say the platform has another summer binge on its hands.

The eight-episode drama, developed by Bekah Brunstetter, follows Hollis Shaw (Jennifer Garner), a celebrity food influencer whose seemingly perfect life unravels after the sudden death of her husband. Still processing months later, Hollis invites four women from different chapters of her life to her beautiful Nantucket home. The intention was for a girls weekend to heal old wounds. Instead, it cracks her picture-perfect world wide open. Regina Hall plays Dru-Ann, the college bestie with a big career. Chloë Sevigny’s character Tatum, is Hollis’s childhood friend trying to process something of her own. D’Arcy Carden and Gemma Chan round out the guest list as Brooke and Gigi. Each character carrying secrets of their own . Timothy Olyphant plays Jack, Hollis’s high school sweetheart who never left the island.  Based from by the sparks he and Garner throw off screen and on, he never quite left her heart either.

On the carpet, Garner and her castmates were all smiles catching up with press about reuniting for a story that leans into grief, friendship, and the messiness of reinvention. “The ladies around me,” Garner shared when we asked her about what the most important part of bringing her character to life was.  “It was just so magical to work with women and actresses that just brought it every day.” As for author Elin Hilderbrand, her main concern with production was making sure they got Nantucket right. “I’ve lived there 33 years it has to be right or I am going to hear about it,” she stressed. Most of the filming took place on the island. The other cast and crew we spoke with had nothing but great things to share from their experience.

Following the screening, we got to attend the after party at Baltaire in West LA. It was a lovely moment for the cast and crew to celebrate with each other all their hard work and efforts out for the world to watch and enjoy. The Los Angeles eatery was transformed into Nantucket with signature cocktails and a food spread akin to Hollis Shaw.  A gorgeous charcuterie board and seafood station with oysters and how could we forget about the blueberry tart for desert. The Lily Pulitzer photo booth station took guests to a quintessential Nantucket beach house. Don’t worry we got to leave the party with a copy of the book and Pulitzer shades (very on theme).

The Five-Star Weekend is a reminder that hardship can happen to us all and our ways of processing might differ but in the end it’s all about who is there for us in the hard times. If you’re a fan of shows like Big Little Lies or The Perfect Couple, this one belongs on your watchlist.

The Five-Star Weekend is now streaming, all eight episodes, exclusively on Peacock.
