It is the sweetest and quirkiest film of 2020. Wild Mountain Thyme, a play turned film by John Patrick Shanley, is a love letter to Ireland and despite the big names on screen, no one beams more than The Land of Saints and Scholars.
However, they come pretty darn close. Soggy weather or sunshine, Emily Blunt radiates as Rosemary. She is a spitfire with no censor and manages to maintain the innocence and naiveté of Rosemary’s childhood counterpart, Abigail Coburn.
Rosemary grew up next to Anthony in a small town in Ireland. She has been in love with him since they were little. Anthony is distraught because his father (Christopher Walken) is considering not leaving him their land.
Jamie Dornan blows you away with his insecure, stubborn, and eccentric portrayal of Anthony. Between his bizarre relationships with a donkey and a metal detector, you will find yourself laughing out loud at this heartthrob turned farmhand.
If Dornan isn’t enough hunk for you, Jon Hamm is here to create the world’s most conflicting love triangle. Become a Real Housewife of New York or continue to be ignored by your neighbor? Most women would choose The Big Apple. Hamm’s Adam is actually a great option for a husband. He is handsome, kind, wealthy, not a stranger, and did we mention handsome? New Yorker Adam is Anthony’s cousin and is looking to purchase the land in Ireland from Uncle Tony (Walken.) He is also quite smitten with Rosemary. So not only does Adam want Anthony’s land… he wants his Wild Mountain woman!
In the video above, The Knockturnal’s Kinsey Schofield interviews Emily Blunt, Jamie Dornan, Jon Hamm, and John Patrick Shanley about their experiences on Wild Mountain Thyme. Who cries more in front of Emily Blunt… John Krasinski or Christopher Walken? Jamie Dornan’s surprising allergies… and Jon Hamm’s election 2020 recap.
Bleecker Street’s Wild Mountain Thyme premieres in theaters and on-demand December 11th.
The romantic ending reminds me of one of my favorite quotes, “Magic happens when you don’t give up. The universe always falls in love with a stubborn heart.” ❤️
