Christian Siriano Releases Second Book ‘Dresses to Dream About’
Christian Siriano released his second book on Wednesday, November 8 in Flatiron’s Rizzoli Bookstore. Dresses to Dream About explores Siriano’s design process from beginning to end, allowing his fans to see his pieces up close from sketches to beautiful, finished gowns.
Friends and family came out to celebrate the launch including Drew Barrymore, Christina Hendricks, Coco Rocha, and Brad Walsh. Guests mingled while sipping on Modern Greyhound and Classic Martini, Belvedere Vodka cocktails that were made exclusively for the event.
We got the chance to speak to the renowned designer, check out the interview below.
The Knockturnal: What inspired you to write a second book?
Christian Siriano: It’s a retrospective of my work over the last ten years. I wanted people to see my work from the beginning to the end; to see the pieces that got overlooked in the beginning; to see what goes into to the clothes all in one place.
The Knockturnal: There’s so much going on in the world at the moment. How do you stay focused?
Christian Siriano: I have a lot of dream things I want to do and I try to make those happen. I guess that’s how I focus on them. Having a book of all my work or work that I love was very important to me. If I love it and I’m passionate about it, I try to make it work.
The Knockturnal: Have currents events impacted your work?
Christian Siriano: Yes, that’s why my book is called Dresses to Dream About because I want people to open this book and escape the world. Have a minute, look at beautiful clothes and feel great about them. That’s very important-escapism.
The Knockturnal: What other exciting projects are you working on?
Christian Siriano: A million things. We’re getting ready to open another store in February. My ten year fashion show is happening as well. I’m excited.
The Knockturnal: You’ve done so much. What’s still a dream project?
Christian Siriano: I want to do more for film. I just did costume for a film Julianne Moore is in. I did some pieces for a film Patricia Field is doing with Jennifer Lopez, that was really great. I want to do something bigger. That will be in the works one day.
The Knockturnal: What’s your favorite part of the book?
Christian Siriano: The stories, just the little anecdotes about my mom and sister.
The Knockturnal: Where do you get inspiration?
Christian Siriano: Everywhere. Honestly I find inspiration in the most random places: art, culture, the women I am dressing- that’s a big part of it.

Celebrity hair stylist, Brandon Martinez recently introduced his new hair care line, B. The Product. The collection contains the B. The Product Biotin Shampoo and the B. The Product Biotin Conditioner. Both products are packed with vitamins, proteins, and biotin to leave hair looking and feeling great.
I tried the Biotin Shampoo and loved how it left my hair feeling voluminous, even into day two when it normally begins to feel oily and weighted down. The shampoo is packed with nutrients: cucumber extract adds moisture to both dry and damaged hair; aloe vera is soothing and calming; while pro-vitamin B5 adds shine. I then followed up with the Biotin Conditioner, using it exclusively on my ends to prevent split ends. The conditioner strengthens hair with wheat protein, protects hair from damage with Vitamin E, and conditions with silk protein.
Best part? Both products are paraben and sulfate free, which can cause an irritated scalp and hair loss and have even been linked to causing certain cancers.
Get both the shampoo and conditioner at Amazon.com in both travel and full sizes. Have a Prime Membership? Get it even sooner.
Brandon Martinez also released his first book, Sex, Hair and Billionaires: Adventures for a Celebrity Hairstylist. The tell-all memoir details true stories of Martinez’s experiences as a Hollywood celebrity stylist working with celebrities, billionaires, and rock stars. Each chapter stands alone, detailing different accounts of Martinez’s conversations, giving readers a true fly on the wall feel into the lives of some of their most beloved celebs.
Cat Footwear held a preview to introduce the brand’s upcoming SS18 collection on Thursday November 2nd. In addition to showcasing the new collection, guests were able to view the current fall collection in it’s entirety, gathering tons of gift giving ideas for the upcoming holiday season.
Guests enjoyed delicious treats from Big Mozz, Bona Bona, Sigmund’s Pretzels, Underwood Wines, and Founders Brewing Co. Talented tattoo artists from Smith Street Tattoo Parlour custom tattooed each pair of Cat Footwear, allowing everyone to go home with their own personal custom boots.
In line with the brand’s fall GO BOLDLY campaign, guests were encouraged to share their own “My Bold Is” moments. Bold moments included, “Roar at your fears”, “Moving to NYC”, and “Not straightening my hair for an interview. #curls.”
In speaking about the brand’s DNA, Cat Footwear said:
“The Cat brand embodies the spirit of hard work in everything we do, which is why it doesn’t matter if you’re moving the earth on the job site or foraging through the urban landscape. Caterpillar empowers the world to shape its future.”
Some of our favorites from the current fall collection are:
- Hester Bootie ($130): This cute little tomboy bootie is the perfect weekend pair. Details like the brown sole and white upper stitching really make the colors pop. Choose among olive, brown sugar, sedona, and black.
- Matilda Boot ($140): Now a staple in my closet, these comfy boots are super soft and comfy. I got mine engraved at the launch preview with my initials, making my pair extra special. The Matilda comes in black and brown.
- Windup Shoe ($120): I love the chunky white soles on these, they stand bold and proud while also providing practical traction. I was surprised to find that the Windup are super light and comfy while the nylon mesh sock liner inside helps keep your feet cool. Choose between tan and red.
- Hauler 6” Waterproof Composite Toe Work Boot ($175): These men’s Work Boots provide everything you would ever need in a heavy duty, high performance shoe. True to Cat Footwear’s DNA, these waterproof work boots are made to function in the toughest environments while still remaining comfortable and flexible.
Known for its colorful, high performance socks, Pair of Thieves held its SS18 Preview in Soho early last week, on October 24th.
We spoke to founder Alan Stuart to learn more about the upcoming SS18 Collection.
The Knockturnal: How did Pair of Thieves start?
Alan Stuart: We started about five years ago. We launched with Target first, now we’re in Macy’s, Urban Outfitters, Selfridges, and Opening Ceremony. We do mass market but we also have the boutique exclusive collections. We do everything with a sneaky performance built; high performance features underneath cool patterns, designs, and colors.
We started with socks and then went into men’s underwear and now that’s our hero product. We say that it’s like air conditioning for your junk.
The Knockturnal: How did glamping become your inspiration?
Alan Stuart: We wanted to do a cozy, cabin sock. We also wanted to give women something special that men didn’t have. We don’t have a men’s glamping collection or men’s cashmere. Women get the softest cashmeres. We launched our first cashmere collection with Jenni Kayne last year. That was rad because she’s an amazing designer. It was such a small exclusive collection, we numbered each one by hand.
The Knockturnal: What inspired the Blackout + Whiteout Collection?
Alan Stuart: The Blackout + Whiteout Collection is a cool story. This is as basic as it comes, everyone has has had black and white socks since day one. We wanted to build a better one and added a give back. We heard that in homeless shelters, socks were the most requested, least donated item. For each pack that’s bought, three pairs are donated to those in need. This year we are on par to donate over a million pair of socks bi-coastal.
To be able to do sales at Target, crush it, and then do tiny little collections with Jenny Cane or Opening Ceremony has been amazing.
The Knockturnal: What are you most excited for in the new SS18 line?
Alan Stuart: I’m super excited for the women’s underwear and intimates line. We have about 50-60% women in our office and they’ve been so pissed that they don’t have their own underwear. So Deanna, our Director of Product Development & Production, worked so hard on launching the collection. There will be two silhouettes in the bras and four silhouettes in the underwear, all in two different fabrics. The bras are double lined and reversible so you get a solid and a print in one.
The Knockturnal: What is the Barbie display for?
Alan Stuart: We’re looking at a sneak peak of Barbie & Ken modeling our underwear for SS18. They’re all wearing the little patterns and colors from the upcoming line.
Budweiser Releases Repeal Reserve in Celebration of the Repeal of the Prohibition
Budweiser celebrated the new launch in style at none other than at the Classic Car Club Manhattan on Wednesday, October 25th.
The recipe for Repeal Reserve was first created in the pre-Prohibition era when Adolphus Busch tried out the Amber Lager amongst his family and friends. When the Prohibition began in 1920, it prevented the experiential brew from making it out of St. Louis.
Budweiser is now bringing the recipe to the masses by launching it for a limited time nationwide. The brand took each detail into account, creating a new retro stubby bottle to match the new brew.
The caramel malt lager has a slightly higher ABV than the traditional Budweiser, with it being 6.1% vs. the normal 5%. It wasn’t standard practice to mark the alcohol content in a brew till the Repeal passed on December 5, 1933. This measure was passed in attempts to standardize and regulate the beer industry.
Guests sipped the new brew while marveling at the rare array of vintage Porsches that were on display. Budweiser collaborated with Lyft to commemorate the occasion by offering lucky New Yorkers the chance to experience their Lyft ride in an antique, vintage car. The contest was held for a limited time on Wednesday, October 25th from 3-7PM.
