Renowned makeup artist, Kabuki, collaborated with NARS to come up with three unique looks for the Perfect365 App.
With over 100 million users, Perfect365 App allows users to try out countless makeup looks virtually. The app is easy to use and super convenient, allowing users to post their own looks as well for other users to try out.
At the press preview, users were encouraged to try on Kabuki’s looks through the app while NARS makeup artists recreated the looks in real time. Having used the app for the past seven months, Kabuki mentioned,
“What I really like about it is that the digital depiction of the makeup is really accurate to how it turns out. So I get to figure out a game plan for the looks that I will be doing.”
The three looks are:
Cameo: NARS Orgasm Blush, NARS Matte Eyeshadow in Bengali, NARS Powermatte Lip Pigment in Get It On, & Nars Audacious Mascara
Modern Classic: NARS Orgasm Blush, NARS Powermatte Lip Pigment in Just Push Play, Nars Audacious Mascara, & NARS Eyeliner Stylo in Carates
Dark Angel: NARS The Veil Cheek Palette, NARS Powermatte Lip Pigment in Walk This Way, NARS Man Ray Glass Tears Palette, & NARS Larger Than Life Long Wear Eyeliner in Via Veneto
We spoke to Kabuki and Perfect365’s Business Manager, Leila Aziz, to learn more about the collaboration.
How did the collaboration among Perfect365, NARS, and Kabuki come to be?
Kabuki: Well we’re all old friends really. I’ve worked with NARS in the past and I love using the Perfect365 App. When I work with Padma Lakshmi for example, she’s so involved in the makeup, she could care less about what I do with her hair. So it’s great to have a photo of her and be able to create looks. I use the app all the time.
Leila Aziz: It was a natural connection because NARS is very artistic and innovative and the app really facilitates creativity for an artist.
What are some of your favorite trends in the makeup industry at the moment?
Kabuki: There’s the “natural” look where you have dimensional skin and really nicely defined features, but it still looks natural. That’s a really modern way of using makeup. It transforms you and makes you feel like a celebrity and it works on everybody. Bu then there are also more exciting things like when you make a feature very dramatic. If you have a favorite feature, you can define it further by doing a matte lip or a smokey eye. So it’s really about an individual wanting to highlight what they think is their best feature. But the great thing about the app is that you don’t actually have to do the makeup to get the confidence to try something new. For example, the three looks that I created for the app (Cameo, Modern Classic, and Dark Angel) can be tried instantaneously.
What are some of your favorite features of the Perfect365 App?
Leila Aziz: It allows for a lot more experimentation. Without having to commit and actually putting the makeup on, you can experiment and step out of your comfort zone and experiment more.
Kabuki: The thing is you don’t have to spend the time to try out a new look. You also use the app anytime: when your traveling or laying in bed. You can easily try out a new look at your convenience.
Leila Aziz: Especially if you’ve been wanting to try out a new look. If you’re doing a consultation for someone long distance where you aren’t able to do a makeup rehearsal or when you want to send a look to a designer for a show, you can easily create the look through Perfect365.
Kabuki: It’s also important to communicate visually when you’re working in a visual medium because there are different interpretations or assumptions of what things could be.
What are some of your favorite platforms when it comes to sharing your work or looking for inspiration?
Kabuki: I love Instagram because it’s visual. I love the randomness too of what you will find.
