You may recognize Bellamy Brewster’s work from the cover of Usher’s newest single GLU, or from the pages of Vogue, Nylon, and Paper Magazine.
Bellamy, the New York City-based multi-hyphenate creative currently working as Usher’s key photographer while running his own boutique multi-service creative studio, multi/title, took time out of his jampacked schedule to host an exhibit of his own work, titled SANCTUARY, at the Synagogue For The Arts in TriBeCa, NYC.
The evening began with “Commit to Memory,” a spoken word recital of poems from Bellamy’s book, Commit to Memory Vol. 1. Guests then viewed Bellamy’s art from the MEDITATIONS exhibition, a collection of art formations taken in deserts across California, Mexico, and Saudi Arabia. Taken while in isolation after the George Floyd protests, this series is described as “the extraneous search for sameness and personal reflection, for homophily within bereft land.”
The exhibition concluded with attendees gathered in the Synagogue’s pews for a live performance from a harpist, gospel choir and work from “Commit to Memory.” The night wasn’t over just yet—the evening concluded with an after party with live music from DJs Sonset Academy, Jada Croo, Honey Bun, and Daze Bower set against a backdrop from Bellamy’s TRANCE collection, an assembly of self-portraits and videos depicting raw choreographed imagery.
