On Saturday, extremely talented DJ and producer Francesca Lombardo threw an epic party at what was a beautiful location in Quito, Ecuador.
As an electronic music lover, I’ve been missing New York a lot because of its many incredible weekly electronic events. Ecuador is not known for its electronic culture, however when artists like Francesca come to visit, the parties taking place are just mind-blowing. There is a lot of good local talent, but having someone that has traveled around the world and has played in the most recognized stages such as Burning Man, Tomorrowland, Get Lost, Circoloco, etc. definitely makes a difference.
I arrived to the venue right when Francesca was about to come on. The setting was already fantastic. The old burned theatre ยจBolivarยจ has become the new house for electronic events, now taking the name of ยจWonder Bar 1933.ยจ With the theatre windows still untouched, the classical decorations somewhat burned and the colored lights added, the feeling as one entered this place was special. As I went up the stairs, the sound of the music got louder and louder and the euphoria that was held in the place was more and more noticeable as I took a step up. The place was crowded with smiles and dance moves, however not overpacked to where one canโt move. I made my way to the stage, where I saw Francesca claiming her throne. The crowd began to cheerfully scream and whistle, encouraging Francesca to feed them with her tunes.
Quito might be Ecuador’s capital, but itโs still small enough for people to know each other. Going to an event of this magnitude, youโre meant to find familiar faces, but this made the environment all the better. Everyone was interacting, smiling at each other, nodding to one another in agreement of the bombastic tunes Francesca played. Itยดs been months since I’ve been craving the feeling amongst the audience that Francesca was able to create. It felt like a true party and the crowd celebrated as such.
This techno and house queen kept throwing beats that made you not want to stop moving. You know an artist is good when not one person is standing still and with every song that comes on, you can see the satisfaction in their faces.
This celebration of music went on from 11:30 PM until 2:30 AM. The audience came together as the last song played to scream โUna mas!โ (meaning “one more song”), and they would not stop until they convinced Francesca to play again. As she put her headphones back on, the crowd went wild, joyful that they could enjoy the music for at least 5 more minutes.
