The sci-fi thriller ‘Black Box’ hits Amazon Prime today, and should leave audiences properly spooked.
From Blumhouse, the studio behind a number of horror classics (Get Out, Insidious), Black Box marks the directorial debut from Emmanuel Osei-Kuffour Jr. It follows Nolan, a single father whose life was turned completely turned upside down by a car accident that left him both a widower and with virtually zero memory of who he is. As he struggles to carry on living with no memory, he soon turns to unorthodox methods in order to regain even a semblance of who he once was.
The movie stars screen legend, Phylicia Rashad, as Lilian, Nolan’s doctor, while Nolan is played by The Get Down star Mamoudou Athie. Athie says he approached his role as a ‘frustrated searcher,’ when it came to developing his portrayal of Nolan.
“If you put yourself in that situation where you have no idea who you are, and what you used to do, and who you are to people and what’s around you, I can imagine that you would start to lose your mind just with the frustration and rage,” Athie explains. But you have to contain it, you have to get through the day, you have to make strides to find a way to get back to who you were or what you were.”
