The Knockturnal experienced intentional connection at CultureCon Café in Brooklyn.
Hosted by the CultureCon Collective at Hotel Indigo Williamsburg, CultureCon Café offered a refreshing take on how creatives gather and connect. As my first CultureCon experience, I was grateful to be in the room.
The traveling café concept feels necessary. It creates an elevated space where Black creatives are not only seen and celebrated, but given the opportunity to connect with intention.
On a perfect spring day in New York, my videographer and I arrived early to capture the space before it filled. Once inside the Aliya Cocktail Den, the energy was immediate warm, inviting, and filled with anticipation. Beautiful Black creatives, familiar faces, and a shared openness set the tone for the evening.
What stood out most was the “conversation menu,” a curated set of prompts divided into work and play. Questions like “What kind of work energizes you vs. drains you ?” and “Whats something you wish people asked you more about ?” shifted the dynamic instantly. Conversations moved beyond surface level exchanges into something more real.
The space itself carried the experience part indoor, part outdoor, with a rooftop and pool overlooking Williamsburg. The DJ flowed from gospel to Kaytranada, and the room followed. There is no gathering like a Culture Collective . Catch them in a city near you, and follow CultureCon for the next stop of the traveling cafe experience.
