Chocolate and fashion? Say less. On Aug. 29 Lindt Chocolate teamed up with celebrity fashion designer Joe Ando for an iconic collaboration celebrating the debut of its new Tokyo Style Matcha Strawberry Chocolate Bar.
More than 400 attendees lined the block outside Lindt’s Chocolate Shop in Midtown, Manhattan to see three custom dresses Ando created for the confectionary giant, each inspired by the matcha and strawberry flavors of the new chocolate bar.
When describing his design process for the collection, Ando shared, “I wanted everything to feel fun and honestly, all the colors and items that are a part of the program are very easy to be inspired by.”
In the back of the store, the three dresses were proudly displayed. One red dress took inspiration from Lindt LINDOR chocolate truffles and their brightly colored, crinkled foil wrappers, making the candies feel as though they had come to life. The green dresses leaned into the rich shade of matcha, translating one of the chocolate bar’s signature flavors into wearable designs.
For Ando, designing the collection wasn’t all that different from creating a custom look for a person. “When it comes to costumes and people, I’m genuinely meeting them and matching their vibe and asking what their preferences are and seeing what styles they’ve worn their whole life. It’s the same for this kind of thing – taking that experience and just tying it into making something for Lindt as if Lindt was a person,” Ando explained.

It was the perfect afternoon as guests stopped in to sample the new Matcha Strawberry Chocolate Bar and sip on complimentary iced matcha from Nana’s Green Tea, a Japanese tea house.
