Lara Croft’s New Movie

Bidding goodbye to the original cinematic Lara Croft, the new reboot of the Tomb Raider movie will be taking inspiration for the main character from elsewhere.

Many remember the Lara Croft: Tomb Raider movies for the iconic characterization done by actress Angelina Jolie. Released in 2001, the movie stayed true to the original video game characterization, providing Jolie with a sense of omnipotence and a complete badass nature. The movie is still viewed as one of the few successful attempts at bringing video games to the cinematic world. But the new Tomb Raider game that came out in 2013 is now changing everything.

The new movie will be directed by Roar Uthaug who explains that the new reboot will be based off of the new video game. This is all because the new team wants to show the main character Lara Croft in a more human way, rather than the all-knowing version of the heroine originally. The new movie, much like the game, will focus on showing the character’s journey into the grizzled raider she becomes. The Norwegian director is also inspired to bring thematic qualities from his country’s heritage into the film, which will provide a darker atmosphere. The director has already stated his presence in the genre, “Raiders Of The Lost Ark was one of my favourite films growing up, so it’s definitely a dream to work in that kind of genre. I think we’ll want to make it feel like a modern action movie and to make what’s going on feel like it’s going on for real”. The dedication to the genre already provides fans with a sense of the film, though many other details have not been released.

Even without many details, or a premiere date, what we do know is the director is a big fan of strong female characters. With a movie based on a strong character arc and growth the reboot promises fans a lot, and hopefully will deliver.
