Classic horror had its moment on Comic-Con’s famous show floor.
San Diego Comic Con is the ultimate hub for all things pop-culture. Fans show out in droves for glimpses at upcoming movies, comics, video games, and more. This year however, classic horror stole the spotlight with a limited release of Titan Books’ upcoming title, Night of the Living Dead: The Official Story of the Film, and a special appearance from the film’s lead actress Judith O’Dea. The Knockturnal had the opportunity to sit down with O’Dea ahead of the book’s official release, and got to hear a little bit about what fans can expect from this tell-all film companion.
“This book really knocked my socks off when I first saw it,” O’Dea recalled, “It has photos I have never seen before.” O’Dea spoke candidly between her interactions with eager fans, as she signed post-cards and fans own memorabilia—the book itself already having sold out for the show. “It tells the honest, precise story of how our movie was made.”

Night of the Living Dead (1968) was written, directed, photographed and edited by George A. Romero. A horror classic, and considered by many to be the movie that introduced the world to the Zombie genre, the film stars Judith O’Dea as Barbra, a young woman who finds herself in a fight for her life after her brother is killed by a reanimated corpse in a local cemetery.
When asked if she believes the film has impacted the modern horror landscape, O’Dea answered thoughtfully, “Our story, even though it was done in 1968, is as relevant today, with what is going on in the world,” Behind her, the line of waiting fans grows longer, many of them fresh-faced and young-new fans alongside old, “When you see our movie, you can relate very easily to life today,”
