The Museum of Arts and Design’s Luminaries welcomed guests to the Steelcase Showroom in Columbus Circle on June 18 for their Summer Loft Party, celebrating the community of artists, designers, and patrons brought together by the MAD Luminaries program.

Overlooking Columbus Circle and Central Park, the gathering transformed the Steelcase Showroom into a vibrant meeting place for emerging arts patrons, working artists, and cultural leaders. Guests moved between expansive rooftop terraces and contemporary interior spaces while taking in sweeping views of the city, creating an atmosphere that reflected both the energy of New York and the collaborative spirit at the heart of the Museum of Arts and Design.

The event highlighted the role of MAD Luminaries, the museum’s young patrons group, which supports contemporary artists working across craft, design, and material-based practices. Through programs that connect members directly with artists, exhibitions, and creative experiences, the initiative helps cultivate a new generation of arts advocates while strengthening the museum’s broader community.

Throughout the evening, attendees had the opportunity to engage with current and former participants in MAD’s Artist Studios residency program, one of the museum’s most distinctive offerings. The program invites visitors to observe artists at work in real time, providing a rare window into the creative process and fostering meaningful dialogue between makers and the public. Artists connected to the residency program joined the celebration, giving guests the chance to learn more about their practices and ongoing projects.

Music by DJ Erol Sabadosh provided the soundtrack for the evening as guests mingled over cocktails and a selection of globally inspired hors d’oeuvres prepared by Personal Touch Catering. The thoughtfully curated menu complemented the relaxed rooftop setting, encouraging conversation and connection among attendees from across New York’s cultural landscape.

As the sun began to set over Central Park, the gathering underscored the museum’s commitment to supporting living artists and creating spaces where creative exchange can flourish. Leaders from MAD reflected on the impact of artist residencies, exhibitions, and educational initiatives that continue to connect audiences with contemporary makers while helping artists develop and expand their practices.

The evening concluded with an invitation for attendees to experience more of the museum’s programming through a private tour of The Haas Brothers: Uncanny Valley, further reinforcing the connection between the museum’s exhibitions and the community that helps sustain them.

More than a summer celebration, the MAD Luminaries Summer Loft Party served as a reminder of the importance of investing in artists, fostering collaboration, and building the relationships that keep New York’s cultural community thriving.
