Sienna Miller

On Tuesday, November 10, Montblanc hosted the highly esteemed Montblanc de la Culture Arts Patronage Awards Function. The low key, private ceremony was held at Kappo Masa, on the Upper East Side. In it’s 24th year, the Culture Arts Patronage Award celebrates patrons of art who have committed to supporting talent worldwide and providing an enriching art experience for audiences everywhere. This year’s honoree was none other than Peter M.Brant. Brant is an avid art enthusiast, who began collecting art when he was eighteen years old.

In his acceptance speech, he said:

“It’s a great honor for me to be recognized by people in the arts for something that I really have always loved doing my whole life,” Brant enthused. “I was very encouraged and surprised they chose me, [Montblanc’s] involvement in the arts is exemplary and I hope many other corporations take an active involvement in supporting the arts,” he continued.

In attendance were Cameron Silver, Patrick Demarchelier, Urs Fischer, Gavin Brown, Lawrence Luhrig, and Stellan Holm. Sienna Miller presented Brant with his award, wearing a pale blue ruffled, Saint Laurent dress.

We got the chance to ask Mr. Brant a few quick questions:

What was the first piece in your art collection?

It was a soup can drawing of Andy Warhol’s. It’s still one of my favorites.

How will the prize money for your foundation, The Brant Foundation Art Study Center, be used?

It will be used for future programming. It will probably be go into to one of our next shows, like the upcoming Steven Shearer show, the artist from Vancouver.

Do you have your eye on any new and up and coming artists?

I’m always looking for pieces. That’s what I do.
