Orlando von Einsiedel‘s latest documentary spotlights a remarkable life shaped by conviction despite social barriers.
Last week the Director’s Guild of America Theatre hosted the New York City premiere of The Cycle of Love. Guests included Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Orlando von Einsiedel, P. K. Mahanandia, Lotta von Schedvin, esteemed media and tastemakers. The night began with a red carpet followed by an introduction by Priyanka Chopra Jonas. “Some of the greatest love stories are ones that defy fate,” said Jonas, after praising Mahanandia’s resilient approach towards love. Following the premiere, the theatre hosted a Q&A with von Einsiedel, Mahanandia and von Schedvin where each reflected on the process of making the film and sharing their story. The night ended with a reception at Faces & Names featuring complimentary drinks and lite bites.

Directed by Academy Award-winning filmmaker, Orlando von Einsiedel and executive produced by Priyanka Chopra Jonas, The Cycle of Love tells the true story of P. K. Mahanandia and his quest for love and liberation. Mahanandia was born in India into a dalit (“untouchable”) caste family. Despite facing much hardship due to the systematic oppression caused by India’s caste system, Mahanandia’s resilience helped him overcome countless obstacles in his pursuit of love. Separated by countries and continents, Mahanandia set out on a nearly impossible journey to Sweden with nothing but his bike at his side. Over the course of five months and 6000 miles Mahanandia learned that genuine human connection transcends caste, race and religion and that love truly conquers all.
