The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science released today its nominations for the Academy Awards. Damien Chazelle’s lauded “La La Land” has picked up 14 Oscar nominations–a record that ties it with “Titanic” (1997) and “All About Eve” (1957) for most nominations.

Setting another record, the Academy announced six nominations for black actors as a concerted effort to move past its #OscarsSoWhite legacy. Furthermore, films like “Moonlight,” “Hidden Figures” and “Fences” are in the Best Picture category, signalling perhaps a new era of diversity.
