Designer Cho Cho Cheng premiered another stunning set of 1960s-inspired looks Monday evening at Gallery II of Spring Studios from his Spring/Summer 2020 collection.
Set in the same minimalist space as last year’s SS runway show, the designer diverged from last year’s bold Best of Everything inspired looks to showcase something more muted and mysterious. Models stepped to the beat in platform Spanish espadrilles that laced up their ankles. Their cropped jackets, shift dresses, and skirts were neutral tones, soft pinks, monochrome, with the occasional burst of candy stripes or coral red.
Womenswear label Chocheng is known for its use of 100% natural and cruelty free materials. They continue their tradition of hand-sewn techniques and traditional British inspired tailoring with this collection.
Cho stated that he was inspired by “the mystery and the glamour of headscarves and oversized sunglasses.” His vision mixes the retro and the modern, giving the classic headscarf a sleek makeover for use beyond a 1960s convertible ride. Oversized wood framed sunglasses and hand-sewn fabrics of cotton boucle, knit, and linen complete a look that’s both professional and seductive.
Other inspiration comes from mystery thrillers Plein Soleil and Midnight Lace which appear on the runway, not cloaked in the cover of night, but in the glamour of broad daylight.
