Interviews With Alexa PenaVega, Sofia Richie, Madison Beer, Skylar Diggins & Ta’Rhonda Jones At The Red Dress Fashion Show
The Knockturnal was invited backstage by Cutler/Redken Salons for the American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women Red Dress Collection 2016, presented by Macy’s.
This season, KOCCA (Korea Creative Content Agency) and the Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism present YOHANIX by Tae-keun Kim and JARRET by Ji-yeon Lee for the womenswear Fall Winter 2016 Show.
This past fashion week our first stop was Creatures Of The Wind. We were pleased to see some of this season’s trends on the runway already. One of them being metallic nails. Danielle Candido, one of the lead nail stylists for Morgan Taylor Nails, wanted to create a edgy, cool but sexy vibe for the Creatures of the Wind girl.
With its french manicure influenced design, this nail style is a reverse version of that where the root has a french accent and the base starts at the bottom of nails. Danielle uses “Could Have Foiled Me” as the base coat and “Brassy Crescent Moon” along the cuticle, “Give Me Gold” was layered by “Bronzed and Beautiful” to give it this effect.
Ever wonder how models during fashion week always have that radiant glow? Despite the arctic temperatures and hectic backstage environments, it’s impossible to spot a model on the runway that doesn’t look incandescent.
We got the chance to go backstage and speak to Sarah Kugelman, President and Founder of skyn ICELAND, who worked with her team of skincare experts to prep and treat the skin for the Adam Lippes fashion show.
“We are just launching the under eye eliminator. You can see it has a pink pearl pigment in it that really helps to illuminate the under-eye area. It makes the eyes look more wide away, more open, and in addition to that there botanicals that firm and tone the under eye area. It helps to brighten from the inside as well as the outside. In addition, it has grapefruit extract for detoxifying. It acts as a primer for the eye and also a treatment product.
The blemish dots are meant to be used overnight. They are clear and continuously delivering the antidote to the skin. sliced acid, tea tree oil, and an ingredient like retina to exfoliate. They last about a month after they are opened and 2 years if unopened.
We decided to launch the cleansing cloths for eyes this season. The product is super gentle and great around the eye. I’ve been using it every night after fashion week to take off the loads of make up that I’ve had on. It’s such a dream after using eye make up remover with the cotton ball and having to do it multiple times. It’s just one cloth and it gets it all off. It’s scented with a natural tea tree and cucumber, so it smells nice but it’s still really natural. It’s great for the eye area but still really effective.
The other products that we are using at fashion week are our eye gels and face gels. When I got here this morning it was really hot, so when we were doing the eye gels we found that it was so cooling, so aside from prepping the skin for make up and re-texturizing the skin, adding hydration, and creating a glow, it also really helped cool people down which calms everybody and creates a good atmosphere.
After the gels, we will generally do our Icelandic Eye cream to finish and have a long term effect on the eyes. We just re-launched this product with a stem cell from cold regions. These flowers extracted the stem cell that’s really great for anti-aging around the eyes. We have a complex in here that’s also in the under eye illuminator that actually tightens and firms and reduces puffiness as well with botanicals.”

Backstage At Creatures of Comfort Fall 2016 With Davines & Unistella
We went backstage at Creatures of Comfort to gather all of Fall’s latest trends.
High ceilings, wood arches, and Chargaux’s violin version of Carmen Bizet’s most famous melody, transported us into the safe medieval haven of fantastically printed creatures. Mara Hoffman, along with the stunning tapestry from ABC Carpet & Home created a perfect background that allowed her usual bold prints to pop even more.
This season, the designer went further into exploring female identity by getting inspiration from powerful women. “I wanted the collection to feel like you were sitting at a dinner table with all of the major icons from the 70s- Cher, Jerry Hall, Bianca Jagger,” Hoffman said.
Tresemme stylist Tyler Laswell comprehended Mara’s inspiration fully, and even added a little extra. “Our inspiration was kind of if you thought of Cher, Jerry Hall and Bianca Jagger hanging out in this French smokey parlor and take all of that 70’s and add a little bit of 20’s.”
“Mara is a true artist so I don’t want any girl to feel like the exact duplicate of another one. So we had to have a common thread throughout the show so we have two really predominant textures.” There were really tight curls and also a softer s wave or marcel wave. Some of the girls have center parts or side parts.”
Tyler told us that they were going for voluminous triangular shaped silhouette. They wanted to take that old hairstyle and modernize it so the texture was very soft. “This is the kind of volume that you can run your fingers through,” Tyler assured us.
These are the products used:
- Tresemme Beauty-Full Volume Pre-Wash Conditioner
- Tresemme Beauty-Full Volume Shampoo
- Tresemme Beauty-Full Volume Hair Maximizer
- Tresemme Beauty-Full Volume Mousse
- Tresemme TRES Two Mega Firm Gel
- Tresemme Beauty-Full Volume Hairspray
To achieve this look without the fabulous Tresemme team, pre-condition and shampoo the night before, use a little bit of the Tresemme Beauty-Full Volume Hair Maximizer, wrap your hair around those old long rollers, and sleep with them all night. This is the easiest way to create the look spot on.
The beauty look was inspired by a feline-shaped, peacock blue eye and plum stained lip by Sephora Pro. Lead artist Ilde Goncalves gave us some pro tips :
- To achieve a flawless glowing complexion, mix your moisturizer with a luminizing primer and apply to all over the face. Then apply your foundation in sheer layers.
- When working with shimmering eyeshadows, layer the shadow on top of a liner to improve saturation and prevent fall out.
- Apply gel liner to the top of the lash line before applying your mascara to give the illusion of fuller lashes.
- Prep your lips with a nourishing lip mask at the beginning of your makeup application so the lips will be hydrated, smooth and pumped by the time you are ready to apply color to the lips.
The nail art was done by Zoya. Mara picked the 4 colors that represent the essence of her collection: Toni, Flowie, Ireland, and Jackeline. In terms of the pigment, they used two coats of each color and finished with naked manicure glossy seal. It gives you the gel coat finish without it being gel.
