Rising actor Jordyn Curet is opening up about stepping into one of the year’s most talked about films — and why she didn’t try to mirror Zendaya while playing a younger version of her character in The Drama.
The Drama centers on a layered, character driven story that explores identity, memory and emotional complexity, following different stages of its central character, Emma, as her experiences shape who she becomes. The film’s nonlinear approach and shifting perspectives have helped fuel conversation around its performances and storytelling choices.
During an exclusive interview with The Knockturnal, Curet said she approached the role of young Emma with the understanding that continuity between performances was not the goal.

“It worked better if both our Emmas are completely different,” she said.
Rather than aligning her performance with Zendaya’s portrayal, Curet focused on shaping her own interpretation of the character, a decision that underscores the film’s layered storytelling and has sparked conversation among audiences.
The experience of joining such a high profile project was not lost on the young actor.

“I was so honored and excited that I get to be apart of a film this incredible,” she said. Curet also reflected on finally meeting Zendaya before filming, describing the moment as both surreal and nerve-wracking. “I was a little nervous. I had a little bit of an outer body experience as one would when they meet Zendaya,” she said.
Curet also reflected on her time on set, including a standout moment working alongside Robert Pattinson. “My favorite scene is probably with Robert [Pattison]. I loved filming with Robert,” she said.

Curet said the opportunity to take on a complex role like young Emma is one she hopes will shape her future in the industry. “I love that I got to play a complex character with young Emma and I hope I continue playing more layered characters like her,” she said.
As The Drama continues to generate buzz, Curet’s performance adds a distinct perspective to the film, with her approach to the character offering a departure from expectations and signaling a promising path ahead.
