The English indie rock band alt-J played songs from their latest album “This Is All Yours” and answered questions about their work.
The exclusive concert took place at the iHeartRadio Theater in New York City to a packed crowd of eager fans. As the band was introduced and took the stage, they started it off right with a fan favorite “Hunger of the Pines”. They followed up with another great song from their latest album, “Left Hand Free”. After each of the first few songs, they took time to answer some questions from the iHeartRadio host about their work.
Gus Unger-Hamilton spoke about how they work and come up with new material, mostly through just playing and being together with their great producer at Iguana Studios. Gus also mentioned the sort of spontaneity associated with their collaboration with Miley Cyrus, and although they don’t have any planned collaborations with any artists, that they’d be open to it. They also talked about what inspired some of their songs. For example “Fitzpleasure” was inspired by a chapter in the book “Last Exit to Brooklyn”. Other influences included movies and the feelings associated with lost loves.
The concert itself was amazing. The sound was captivating, diverse, and emotionally driven. The band gave their all and delivered a great listening experience. The great lighting created a sort of ambience that added to the atmosphere of the music. They really tried their best to make sure the audience and every who tuned in to the Tidal stream had a blast. Needless to say, they succeeded.
If you are relatively unfamiliar with the work of the group, this concert may be one of the best places to start. If you subscribe to Tidal, the videos are already up. You can also check it out Sunday on iHeartRadio.
