While Korean Dramas are taking the world by storm, Blood Free injects a whole new flavor… pun intended!
Starring Ju Ji-hoon and Han Hyo-joo, this 10-episode Hulu and Disney+ series delves into a near-future storyline where consumerism faces a harsh reality check.
The show tackles controversial topics like corporate fraud, meat alternatives and the lengths companies go to in the name of profit. While the initial concept might seem far-fetched, Ji-hoon emphasizes the show’s underlying importance.
Ju Ji-hoon and Han Hyo-joo portray characters Woo Chae-woon and Yu Ja-yu who must navigate this complex landscape, facing challenges and adversaries together. Filled with suspenseful twists and turns, the series keeps viewers on the edge of their seats, eager for more.
In our recent interview with the stars, the two stars discussed their favorite moments on set and the show’s significance in the context of the global Korean drama phenomenon.
Ji-hoon expressed his passion for the project, elaborating on the novelty of portraying near future narratives:
“The fact that we were able to create something like blood free that took a little bit of a longer time and also deals with a topic that has a sense of weight to it — It’s not always easy to get things like that made in the current circumstances we live in today.”
Han Hyo-joo, who plays Jayu, the show’s other lead, echoed Ji-hoon’s sentiment. She embraced the opportunity to portray a strong, admirable female character, finding the subject matter of Blood Free to be invigorating.
The interview also delved into a lighter note, with questions about the actors’ dream bodyguards (inspired by Ji-hoon’s character, Chae-woon, who serves as Ja-yu’s protector). Their answers, we’re assured, were both funny and intriguing!
