Exclusive: Breeda Wool opens up about her career and upcoming roles

by Richard Schertzer December 18, 2022
written by Richard Schertzer

The Knockturnal was able to sit down with actress Breeda Wool who is currently in the newest Disney+ series National Treasure: Edge of History.

The Knockturnal: Where did you grow up?

Breeda Wool: “I grew up in Champaign-Urbana Illinois. I was a child of two professors. One in science, one in art and I think I lived around Europe when I was a kid. I lived in Paris and Italy and I had dreams of going to NYC, smoking clove cigarettes and wearing a black beret turtleneck and being arty. I did a Psychology and theater degree in Wagner College and then I became a performance artist and a street performer and I did a lot of weird movement dance theater and at some point my manager was like ‘I’m going to L.A. You wanna come?’ and I said ‘Yeah,’ and so then I came out here and I’ve just been trying to figure out the roads, ever since. I did a film called AWOL and it went to Sundance and now I’m on Disney [National Treasure: Edge of History]….with Catherine Zeta-Jones.”

Credit: Courtesy of Disney

The Knockturnal: So what was that like? Do you play her [Jones] right-hand woman or second-in command?

Breeda Wool: “I’m second-in command, right-hand woman, bad guy #2. It’s magical. We shot it in Baton Rouge. Growing up, I always thought of her [Jones] as being this person who had great, wide, populous appeal but also tremendously deep and resonant art, which those two things combined is a very amazing thing to achieve, as any performing artist and she lived up to all the hype.”

The Knockturnal: Can you tell me more about the character you play in the show?

Breeda Wool: “Well, I’m Casey in the series and I am a part of the Billie family who is played by Catherine Zeta-Jones, and we are pursuing, viciously, a thing called the Pan-American Treasure. Mayan, Incan and Aztec women would protect all the gold in Mexico from Cortez and from the invading Conquistadors. As the story goes, in National Treasure: Edge of History, there’s this incredible Pan-American treasure, So, there’s a group of young, in-college, out of high school people who are, basically, going against a giant, private jet plane, secret society organization that I am a part of, but in this story I am also her [Billie’s] family. We are dedicated to a cause.”

The Knockturnal: ‘Mr. Mercedes’, as I heard from your interview with KTLA 5, is about a killer who controls people with his mind. You played Lou Linklatter.

Breeda Wool: “Yeah that story is based on a Steven King book trilogy called Mr. Mercedes of the same name and Steven King came and did a cameo in the first season and that series is brilliant. It was a magical mystery tour and that finished in 2019 and then a wild global pandemic happened and then I had a baby.”

The Knockturnal: This past year you starred in the films ‘The Collection’, ‘Ultrasound’ and ‘Mass’ and won the Robert Altman award at the Indie Spirit Awards. Tell me about your time on those films.

Breeda Wool: “Mass is an incredible portrait of these four parents. One parent’s child was a victim of a mass shooting and the other parent was the shooter and they meet in a church basement to have a discussion. That premiered in 2020 at Sundance. My role in that film is I am the woman that works at the church who is sort of setting the stage and I think one thing that I explored in that film was the absolute awkwardness of regular people trying to hold space for deeply tragic events. How do people who aren’t involved in these extreme moments of tragedy able to create space for the people who are attempting repair. Fran Krantz who directed and wrote that film was inspired by the reparative justice system in South Africa and he was just so shocked and alarmed how people, after such an intense act of violence, move forward in the aftermath. That film, I think, is one of the greatest films I’ve ever seen or been a part of.”

The Knockturnal: What about ‘The Collection’ and ‘Ultrasound’?

Breeda Wool: “We shot it [Ultrasound] two years ago and it came out last year. The Collection hasn’t come out yet, but I also made a film called Seven Faces of Jane and that’s coming out next month.”

The Knockturnal: Where do you see yourself in 5-10 years?

Breeda Wool: I’ve co written and produced a film but I really would like to make more of my own shit. I feel like I might do a lot more action.

On July 14th, 2022, Foster Grant hosted the Paraiso Miami Beach influencer and media welcome dinner at Tropezon, located in the Esme Miami Beach Hotel. Foster Grant Sun Luv collection is the Official Sponsor of Miami Swim week’s “Paraiso Miami Beach.” The leading global eyewear brand was featured at the shows all weekend and at the fashion tent daily with display, gifting, and photo booth activations.

The Foster Grant® SUN LUV collection was created to celebrate uniqueness while at the same time embracing important connections to others. Every pair of SUN LUV sunglasses comes with a coordinating A4114A® pouch (“All for One, One for All”) and bracelet to complete the look. And all of that comes in a reusable and recyclable paper tube.

The fun-filled Miami evening started with mingling, music, photos, a deliciously unique Rosé spritzer welcome cocktail, and charcuterie. The Rosé spritzer cocktail was light and refreshing but still had bold flavors of mint which gave this cocktail its unique twist. Once everyone was seated Natalija Dedic Stojanovic and John James Muller welcomed all the guests with a brief welcome introduction before the family-style dinner plates started coming out.

Tropezon, an Andalusian-style gin and tapas bar hidden in the corridors of historic Española Way was responsible for providing all the delicious eats, wines, and cocktails that were severed throughout the night. For our 1st course we indulged in: Para Picar, jamón ibérico de bellota, lomo de bellota, chorizo, mojama, manchego, hummus, gigante bean, finca la torre, sullivan street bread, pan con tomate, plum tomato, heirloom tomato, and garlic. The 2nd course featured carrots, chimichurri, yogurt, idiazabal, Patatas Bravas, aioli, pimentón, Tuna, ajo blanco, and salted cucumber. In our 3rd course, we enjoyed: local fish, clams, tio pepe, salsa verde, chicken, mojo picón, papas canaria, and swiss chard. Finally, it was dessert time. Our sweet tooths were satisfied with: churros, gianduja, salt peaches, oloroso, almond, and vanilla ice cream.

Everyone in attendance received a goodie bag filled with Foster Grant Sun Luv glasses, beauty products from Elaluz by Camila Coelho, and jewelry from Simplicité.

Cast Talks ‘Dino Dana: The Movie’

by Eliana Arian June 18, 2022

Based on the award-winning kids’ tv series, now in its 4th year, “Dino Dana the Movie” is currently available on Amazon. Presented by Fathom Events and Sinking Ship Entertainment, “Dino Dana the Movie” follows Dana, a 10-year-old paleontologist-in-training, as she and her friends embark on an epic dinosaur adventure and try to figure out where all the kid dinosaurs are. The Knockturnal spoke to Michela Luci (Dana), Saara Chaudry (Dana’s on-screen sister) and Emmy-winning series creator, JJ Johnson about the inspiration behind the movie, the message they hope to send to audiences, and of course, their favorite dinosaurs.

The Knockturnal: I just wanted to start out by asking JJ, what inspired you to create Dino Dana The Movie?

JJ: We have always wanted to create a movie, and we had just finished the fourth season and it felt like there was room to tell a much bigger story. We stumbled across a scientific theory that was looking at why they had found a lot of baby dinosaurs and a lot of adult dinosaurs but no kid dinosaurs. When we dug into that theory, it turns out that when paleontologists were digging up dinosaur bones in the 1800s and the 1900s, there was a lot of money to be made in finding new bones. Anyone could say they had found a new dinosaur, or discovered something new, and now we’re beginning to see that a lot of those bones actually belonged to other dinosaurs and that they’re just smaller versions of them. It just felt like such a cool story, the fact that some dinosaurs, including some popular ones, might not exist, and we were excited to focus on it. I love that the character of Dana loves failure just as much as success because those failures lead to something, and this is one of those ideas, that even if we lose some of those popular dinosaurs, there is still that journey of discovery, and it just felt like it was a big enough story to tell on the big screen.

The Knockturnal:  Michela, how did you get involved in acting initially and how did you get involved with Dino Dana specifically?

Michela:  I became involved with acting by accident, when my mom signed me up for musical theatre classes at a dance studio. We found out that the owner of the studio was an agent and she asked me and my mom if we were interested in acting and we went from there, so it was stumbled upon by accident but I really love it. And I was on a show with Sinking Ship called Odd Squad. It was one of my very first acting jobs and I really really loved being on it, such a fun show, and so I met JJ through that show and then I started auditioning for Dino Dana.

The Knockturnal: And how many years have you been on Dino Dana?

Michela: I started when I was nine, so four years now.

JJ: I love that 30 percent of your life is Dino Dana, it’s crazy!

The Knockturnal: So are you guys all like a family at this point?

Group: Yes!

Michela: One big, happy family.

JJ: Well we’ve been lucky to shoot four seasons and a movie so we’ve spent a lot of time together. When we’re auditioning, as much as we’re auditioning for how they can perform the character, we’re also trying to see what they’re like as people and are they gonna be fun to hang out with for five+ years? And honestly with these two, the chemistry was there immediately, and they’re both super smart and fun, to just have around and come up with ideas. I mean Saara’s even written one of the episodes.

The Knockturnal: So Saara, how did you get involved with Dino Dana and what have been some of your past experiences?
Saara: I’ve been acting since I was six, and I kind of got into acting by accident as well. I had just gone to a drama camp and my mom was like, “Okay you’re in kindergarten, get out of the house it’s March break.” You know, just that kind of thing, but then it turned out that there were agents scouting in the audience for the end of year performance…

The Knockturnal: Oh wow.

Saara: Yeah I know it’s weird, people scout five-year-olds. But they asked if I wanted to get involved with acting, so my Mom and I looked around and decided it was really something that I wanted to do. So I started and I had done a couple of shows and guest appearances, and I had been on a Nickelodeon sitcom for a little while. Then the Dino Dana audition came around, and this was after I had been on Odd Squad for a couple episodes, and I had just had the best time on set and everyone at Sinking Ship had been incredible. I can’t say this in front of JJ. He’ll be like “hey, remember that time you complimented me..”

JJ: Because we are all incredible.

Saara: No, but in all seriousness, Sinking Ship is really a family. It’s such a welcoming environment, especially for kids on set, and you can really feel the love everyone has for each other. Having a production company that values the experience of how kids feel  on set, and enduring it’s a fun environment to be in is really special. So anyway, the Dino Dana audition came around and it was just a really fun experience. We were doing a scene where I was listening to music and at the end of the scene I had to take my headphones off to talk to Dana, and at the end of the scene I had to put the headphones back on and I put them on upside down.

JJ: I thought you were just trying to stand out.

Saara: No!! It was the dumbest decision of my life.

JJ: We ran with it.

Saara: But it was great.

Image result for dino dana the movie

The Knockturnal: Can you guys tell me a little bit about the characters you play. How would you describe them?

Michela: So my character is Dana. She’s a paleontologist-in-training, she’s adventurous, she’s brave, she’s outgoing, and she’s very passionate about dinosaurs. She loves solving dino-experiments, she’s a lover of science and loves to explore the world around her, and she also has an incredible imagination.

The Knockturnal: I love that! And what do you like most about playing her?

Michela: The thing I love the most about playing Dana is all the lessons I’ve learned from her. I got to see how she doesn’t care about what other people think of her and how she does what makes her happy. I’ve learned so many lessons from her and it’s so great to see that the audience has learned the same lessons that I did from the show. It is such an honor to play a role model that a lot of young kids look up to, especially young girls.

Saara: I play Saara which is my actual name (laughs). It was really cool because my character was originally named Emily but then they changed it. We really owe it to production companies like Sinking Ship, when there’s someone that comes around that they want to cast who  may look different, or maybe a name doesn’t fit, or a family that they were expecting to cast isn’t the type of family that they’re able to cast now, they’re able to adapt the characters which I think makes the show that much more interesting. Boys and girls get to see people of different colors and diversities on the screen and that’s something that I never really had growing up so I think it’s really special that I get to be that person for kids. But back to my character, Saara is sarcastic, fun loving, and despite all the sarcasm and jokes that she’ll make with Dana and the fact that she kind of likes to be in her own teenage world sometimes, I’ve learned a lot from her because at the end of the day she always comes to Dana’s side.  I think it’s really special that we’re showing kids that family sticks together and that it doesn’t matter what you look like, whether you’re “real” sisters or not, we kind of cover that in the series. But it’s really cool that I get to portray that story.

The Knockturnal: There’s a lot of interesting family dynamics in the movie with all of the step-siblings, and step-parents, JJ why did you feel that was important for you to include in the story?

JJ: I think science is made more relevant when it has actual applications or dovetails into storylines that affect our lives, and so this movie is all about how we spend a lot of time looking at our differences and not a lot of time looking at what makes us all the same. And so to find a scientific question that kind of does a deeper dive into that subject and then to find a kid-relatable story that’s touching on the same thing, I feel like that’s the perfect alchemy that we look for. Whether it’s an episode or a movie you want to be able to understand that question on numerous levels, not just as an interesting fact but what that means for us as human beings.

The Knockturnal: This next question is directed at Michela and Saara. Was filming challenging for you because of the animation?  How does that work for you?

Michela: At first it was challenging because not only do we have to look in the right spot, but we have to make sure our reaction and the way we move our bodies makes sense with what the dinosaur is doing. And that was tough because we didn’t know what the dinosaurs reactions were going to be, or how they were going to move when we were speaking to them.  So I kind of had to imagine, just as Dana does, and the special effects team is incredible, and they would help me too.

Image result for dino dana the movie

JJ: A lot of our shows have one foot in the imaginary, but you know with younger performers– I mean Saara you were talking about having an imaginary friend growing up– kids just naturally are able to use their imaginations…

Michela: My personal favorite is when JJ or any director that we have on set stands in for the dinosaur to go and start running and making the noises. It’s the funniest thing ever.

Saara: In the series, apart from special episodes, Saara doesn’t really see dinosaurs. It’s really Dana doing the experiments, and Sara’s always like “Oh my God I don’t see anything, stop being so annoying Dana.” In the movie Saara finally gets to go on the adventure and participate and she really finds the magic in science and the magic in imagining things and there’s a whole part of the movie where they talk about Sara having to “grow down.” I think that’s really timely just for people having empathy and being able to see eye to eye with youth but it was really cool when we were filming it because with four cast members, kind of looking at the same thing, we all had to be really careful about eye-lines and that sort of thing. There’s one part where I have to grab onto a huge Dino and that was done later, we went back and filmed that because we did that with a green screen and something that the art department or the VFX team had made for me to grab onto and  I was harnessed up and it was just really awesome.

The Knockturnal: Oh my god, that sounds amazing. This next question is directed at Michela and Saara. How do you think the movie incorporates girl power?

Michela: Well Dana and Sara are both strong female leads and like I said before, Dana is in a role as a young paleontologist -in- training that we would typically see on television as a male role. So I think just that in itself really shows girl power because Dana is taking on something that people have never really seen before, and she’s leading by example.

Saara: Yeah I think just having the characters be their true authentic selves and seeing girls onscreen that aren’t just your basic characters and having them be passionate about something and love things like science which you don’t really see on screen is so important.  I think the whole movie emulates girl power just by being. For example, this year at school I signed up for a computer science class. At first I wasn’t sure if I wanted to and I genuinely thought I could not do it because I had never seen any other girl in real life or on-screen that had done that before. It was really my sister who kind of pushed me and was like “hey you can do this, I do this, there’s other girls that do this, I know you haven’t seen too many examples, but you’re just like any of the other guys that are signing up for the class.” Now I’m only one of three girls in the class but at least I’m serving as a role model for other girls. If I saw a girl coder on screen when I was younger, I wouldn’t have had that problem.

JJ: I think there’a many subtle things we tried to do in the movie, for example the fact that the dinosaur heroes are also female, the fact that it’s a female T-Rex at the core of this story trying to save her babies, and the main villain is a female dinosaur trying to protect her birds.. It’s just the little things I think you don’t pick up on. We were really deliberate in the show that we called the Dino’s male and female, 50 50, because I think there’s this natural inclination where you refer to something as “he” or “him.”

The Knockturnal: What are your favorite dinosaurs?

Michela: I’ll start! My favorite dinosaur is a small chicken sized dino- it’s very cute.

JJ: Why is it your favorite dinosaur?

Michela: Because it’s small just like me.

Saara: My favorite dinosaur is the maiasaura. We did an episode dedicated to the maiasaura in season one that was really memorable to me just because the whole episode was about the maiasaura protecting its babies and being a very nurturing, motherly creature so that was really special to me. Just the fact that a dinosaur could embody such gentle characteristics really stood out to me so it made it my favorite.

The Knockturnal: And what about you JJ?

JJ: Mine used to be the T-Rex for a long time for obvious reasons.

Michela: He even named his son after it!

JJ: My son’s name is Rex but now my favorite dinosaur is the therizinosaurus. It’s the dinosaur that has the longest claws of any animal that ever existed. For the longest time they thought it was a carnivore because they thought it would use the claws to impale things but they found out it’s actually a herbivore and uses them to dig.

They are known all around New York for providing an experience that will have you leaving pampered than before, bringing that confidence up to a 10. I had the pleasure of meeting the Co-founder Sari Katz PA-C and her husband who welcomed me with a warm embrace to the Velour family. Consumers want to be treated more than just an ordinary customer, so I admired how each member of Velour was so personable. The soirée was quite the experience. Velour offered a “make your own” perfume area where guests could mix and match scents to their liking and be entertained by a magician who would blow your mind. There was a fabulous open bar, fresh catering of mouth watering finger foods and music that kept me dancing for the whole evening.  Dancing aside the most entertaining founder, Dr. Michael Kennis  and Co-founders made my whole night; everyone was laughing and letting loose from a long day at the office. There was an amazing speech that the founder hosted midway, and it was great to speak with him and hear the story of Velour.

“The event space that we are in, is near and dear to my heart because for 6 years I lived down the street and I would look up and these lofts and think something cool must be going on up there. Velour started in that apartment down the street, and it started with an idea. That idea was to bring luxury concierge medicine to the comfort of your own home. Our promise to you is to always keep bringing the most intimate and advanced medicine to New York City.” – Dr. Michael Kennis

Guests who attend events like such always wear the most fashionable looks; from floral prints, light fabrics and casual jeans it was like a runway show. Although everyone had amazing outfits, my mouth dropped when I noticed the 1996 vintage Jean Paul Gaultier suit that an icon, such as Robin Williams, once wore. The Red X-ray style shirt has such a subtle but bold pattern of a person’s body, which has definitely been trending lately with brands such as Balmain, Jaded London, and more.

Overall I had such an amazing time at the event and experienced the luxury that Velour has to offer, providing all the details needed to make an event spectacular, and to top it off I even left with a goodie bag! It was filled with a Velour T-shirt, QR code for the services and discount, playing cards, a magazine and a beverage. 10/10!

PATBO RTW Fall 2022 X TRESemmme

by Veronika Collins February 22, 2022
written by Veronika Collins

On February 12, 2022 Patricia Bondaldi presented her Fall collection, and might I say was definitely worth the wait. It was my first time attending and viewing her collection from backstage to the runway, it was the most elegant and well put together show of the season.

It was 10am, I got dressed and headed to Surrogate’s Courthouse, and my eyes lit up with excitement as I approached the never before seen runway and location. Walking in there, we were instantly transported to Paris/Italy with the decadent antique designs of the production of the show.

Backstage is where the magic really happens, with world renowned hair stylist Lacey, aka Laceyrunway on lead hair. TRESemme partnered with PatBo, to create the most unique but soft and subtle hairstyles on the runway. TRESemme’s brand is all about soft to the touch hair that is activated by such rich and moisturizing, yet lightweight products, it was only right for them to partner with PatBo.

“The PatBo show is all about undone texture,” Lacey said when asked to describe the technique behind the hairstyles for Patbo FW’22. The hair was all about the texture, patterns and waves on each of the models. “To achieve this look, I’m using the TRESemme one step styler texture spray to add to damp hair, then go in with a little bit of TRESemme moose, followed by a flatiron or whatever you have to achieve this undone wave and finish off with TRESemme hairspray,” Lacey said excitedly. “It’s all just a one, two, step.”

TRESemme has been seen on the runway for many years and many more seasons to come, as its many hairstylist “go-tos” create fabulous looks on 10-20 girls in a minimal amount of time. They want to get the girls in and out, yet leaving them with flawless hair for the remainder of the day.

From backstage, to the runway, even at the after party, models from the show I witnessed still had their runway hair. If products like these can make you runway fresh even at 10pm, they’re the ones to have. PatBo X TRESemme collection products are up and for sale on PatBo’s website Click me  so you too can stay runway fresh.

1. The Ubeesize Selfie Ring Light with Clip has two bendable arms – one holds the ring light and the other holds the cell phone attachment. This versatile product makes it easy for content creators to capture well-lit selfies or livestream anywhere, thanks to the built-in clamp that attaches to almost anything including a table, desk, bed, etc. Users can select multiple light tints and adjust the brightness level for each.

The Review

All content creators will need a flexible selfie ring light with a phone holder at some point or another. This one is perfect because of the rubber clip that clamps down onto the edge of tables, desks, and more. For myself, I use this most when making social media videos in my home office, and it is so easy to use. Even though I have good lighting in my home, sometimes I need the light to be slightly adjusted to complement my makeup (or lack thereof on some days).

2. Sennheiser’s MKE 200 Mobile Kit is a multi-tiered product. It’s specifically designed for content creators on the move; but there are many uses for this kit. The entire set includes the Sennheiser MKE 200 directional on-camera microphone, a smartphone clamp, and the Manfrotto PIXI mini tripod. The MKE 200 has a built-in windscreen and shock mount to minimize handling noise. Portrait and landscape orientation are easy options with the smartphone clamp. The Manfrotto PIXI has a locking ball-head that can easily be adjusted. Overall, this kit contains everything a content creator would need to upgrade their setup. This works for both more experienced creators and beginners.

The Review

This kit really is an all-in-one. It’s the perfect option for anyone looking to get started, or a creator who just wants to bump up their equipment setup. The microphone is great, and I really enjoy the inclusion of the windscreen and internal shock mount. Both of these features allow you to get the most clear, crisp audio possible. The clamp is super helpful too, and I love how it can switch from portrait to landscape orientation in a matter of seconds. The tripod is an excellent (and necessary) addition to this kit. They really set you up for success. I love how convenient, compact, and user-friendly the whole kit is. One of the challenges I have whenever I’m trying to capture some really fun footage at an event or when filming outdoors with just my phone is the quality of the audio. This microphone setup was really a game changer for me and resulted in my final edits being much more polished and professional-sounding.

3.The DJI OM 5 is the perfect companion tool for creators shooting on a smartphone. Whether capturing vlogging footage on the go or snapping some flawless selfies, this tool gives you a seamless capture that is smooth and complete with automatic tracking and more. The OM 5 is also foldable, has a magnetic design, and don’t forget its ShotGuides feature, which acts like your own camera assistant, helping you to snag those incredible shots wherever you are.

The Review

This gimbal is an amazing tool for when you want to capture movement and action on your smartphone – minus the shaking. My kids are ambassadors for an on-the-go plant-based kids’ wipes brand, so we are creating content of them being adventurous and then wiping their hands and face after using this product. This portable gimbal makes it super convenient to record different angles with just a push of a button while simultaneously maintaining a steady image even as the kids go wild!

Born in rural New Jersey, Paul realized at an early age the power and beauty film has; it brings together the collective for a shared experience and allows a chance to escape the daily routine. Paul has worked in the industry, both in front and behind the camera, for over a decade and is excited to keep the passion alive. || Instagram || Vimeo ||

4. Blackmagic’s Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro is the most full-featured compact Super35 camera in the brand’s ‘cine-style’ line. It’s unconventional, and filmmakers everywhere have a resounding love for it. In the style of a traditional DSLR camera, the 6K Pro has fought for its ranking in the film industry by capturing top-tier picture quality in a highly portable device. It’s changing the game of content creation, allowing creators to achieve a high-end cinematic and TV quality look no matter what they’re filming.

The Review

The Blackmagic Pocket 6K Pro is a great camera overall. It’s lightweight and durable but also produces a high quality image. I can throw it on my gimbal and get beautiful, smooth tracking shots, or I can mount it on rails with a V-mount battery and go handheld with it. Whatever the shoot calls for, I know that I have the flexibility and capability to get the shots needed. Another thing I love about this camera is being able to record straight to a hard drive. I can literally unplug the hard drive from my camera, and then plug it straight into my computer and start editing. Before the Pocket 6K, I was shooting with the Blackmagic URSA Mini 4K, which is still a great camera but requires a lot more setup and preparation in order to meet my needs as a creator. Overall, I would recommend the Pocket 6K to any creator that wants the versatility of having a smaller camera while also having the capability of capturing cinema-quality footage.

Check out this trailer I (Paul Marra) shot using Blackmagic cameras.

5. The PGYTECH OneGo Camera Backpack is a great option for content creators who need to transport sensitive equipment to and from a shoot location. This backpack makes doing that simple. It allows for easy access to the bag from three sides. The AirFiber back panel prevents a sweaty back, and the honeycomb structured TPR padded straps help evenly distribute the weight. Plus, this backpack’s exterior is constructed out of a PU coating that makes it waterproof. So, not only can you take this bag with you anywhere, regardless of the weather conditions, but it also provides a highly customizable experience. Dividers let you organize the bag just the way you like it, and there is a laptop and tablet compartment with a removable section. This truly is one of the most stylish and professional backpacks out there for any content creators to get their hands on.

The Review

I love the customization this backpack provides. There are three different types of partitions available, and you can really make this bag work exactly for your needs. Content creators come in many different forms, and we all need to have various items on hand. This bag allows easy access to all of the essentials in a seamless way. I love how comfortable this backpack feels on my shoulders even when it’s stuffed to the brim. I can definitely pack this bag and know that all of my equipment will be protected, and I love that. The back panel is very nice too, and my back doesn’t get nearly as sweaty as it does with other backpacks I’ve used in the past. And the look of this bag… It’s sleek and makes me feel like a true professional. I seriously could not recommend this bag enough.

6. The SanDisk Extreme PRO Portable SSD V2 provides top-notch performance in a rugged yet compact and sleek storage solution. It delivers ultra-fast solid state performance and ensures up to two-meter drop protection and IP55 water and dust resistance. Don’t let the sleek body of this portable drive deceive you; it’s tough enough to withstand any adventure.

The Review

This SanDisk drive is by far the best portable storage solution I’ve ever used. I consistently use this to transfer over a lot of large video files, and the data transfer speed is like lightning. The aesthetic is stunning too, and the drive itself is seamlessly compatible with both Windows and Mac operating systems. I’m impressed by how powerful this solid-state drive is while maintaining such a sleek form. Yes, it’s a bit pricey, but it is worth every cent for its reliable use over the long term. I never have to worry about losing any of my files.

THE REVIEWER

Olympia-Lyana creates and shares a variety of beauty and fashion content with the goal of inspiring confidence among BIPOC. || Instagram | Knockturnal ||

7. The RIKI TALL is an ultra-thin, lightweight, space-saving LED vanity mirror. It enables beauty creators to make stunning tutorials, GRWMs, take pictures, or go live in perfect lighting, with all the convenience of a hands-free mirror.

The Review

This mirror makes creating beauty content so much easier. Paired with the magnetic phone holder, this is the perfect tool for filming makeup tutorials. I love how the lighting surrounds the entire mirror so that I don’t even have to think about setting up additional lighting. It’s also great for creating eye-catching beauty content while on the go, all without needing to lug around a ring light. It has a magnetic phone holder, remote control, and seamless Bluetooth functionality. With five-stage dimming, the lighting is customizable and generates minimal heat.

8. The Boss Babe Bag is constructed with vegan pebbled premium leather, a super-soft microfiber interior liner, and sleek hardware. This bag could teach everyone a few things about organization. The exterior has comfort grip handles and pockets (two types – zipper and easy access). It comes with a padded detachable shoulder strap. The inside of the bag is completely adjustable with padding galore, ensuring the protection of any delicate equipment you take on the go. Front zipper pockets have organized storage for memory cards or other smaller devices, while interior velcro dividers are the perfect size for securing larger items like cameras, lenses, hard drives, laptops, tablets, and more.

The Review

First things first… I could not be happier that this bag is made from vegan leather and from a female-founded/owned brand. Plus, it is so fashion forward and professional looking. It makes me feel like a fancy lady whenever I have the chance to take it out of the house with me. I love that it has adjustable organization. You can truly make the bag work for you however you need. The sizing is great too. There is ample space to fit my laptop, along with other devices, without making the bag feel too packed. I do a lot of BTS shoots and red carpet events that I need to secure video assets for. I used to walk in with a backpack over my shoulder, which always felt a little out of place and sometimes a bit inappropriate for the occasion. This bag eliminated that issue. It’s definitely a splurge purchase, but the quality and use I get out of it is quadruple the value.

9. The Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark III is a powerful, compact point-and-shoot camera ideal for leveling up your vlogs or pictures from smartphone quality. It easily fits in the palm of your hand and is equipped with 4K recording capability, an external microphone, and a 180-degree tilt touchscreen monitor. It delivers crisp, sharp video and has an impressive 4.2x optical zoom that allows users to create stunning video and stills for social media and beyond.

The Review

I love this camera! It delivers quality like a true workhorse, and the convenience of it being so compact is a major plus for me. I take a lot of product photos and videos, and this camera delivers incredible footage for socials. I think this is a must-have for any content creator who has the coin to shell out. One of the best features by far is the tilt-up touchscreen. It’s incredibly useful for taking selfies or recording video alone. I can just flip up the screen and make sure that I’m filming exactly what I want and that I’m in frame.

10. Joby’s GripTight ONE GorillaPod Stand is the newest iteration of the original GorillaPod model that first hit the scene years ago. It was groundbreaking then, and it’s still just as groundbreaking today. You can literally attach this tripod’s bendable legs to anything. Whether you actually wrap them around something to secure it in place, or you position the legs just so to properly balance, you can be sure this thing isn’t going anywhere. It is sturdy and allows for exploration of nearly any angle.

The Review

This tripod has been a lifesaver for me. Vlogging or making social media content isn’t the easiest, especially when you don’t have someone else manning the camera. With this versatile tripod, I’m not limited to the kinds of shots that I can capture. Whenever I’m out on an adventure in nature or at a super cool event, I can set up this tripod, wrap it around something, secure it any which way, and get incredible content. No more balancing acts, stacking my tripod on a book or box. Being able to wrap these flexible legs around anything truly makes the difference. The construction is solid, which I very much appreciate, and I also love how many angles you can set your phone at. It does not limit you at all, despite its small size. Definitely an essential for me and something I’d recommend to any creator.

Tim Pandolfi (artist name ‘Timmy Swerve’) is a rap artist and soon-to-be podcast host for his upcoming show titled, ‘Everything’s Something.’ He also is a fitness expert and creates workout content for his followers. || Instagram ||

11. This Focusrite Scarlett Solo 3rd Gen helps creators of all kinds, including podcasters, singers, and musicians, to deliver crisp sound quality in a compact, easy-to-use interface. With almost zero learning curve, this product helps creators score pro-level tone wherever they are, whether on the go or at home.

The Review

As a creator, there are a few products that are essential for producing my content. This product is definitely one of them. It allows me to record and upload my vocals directly to my laptop. The high quality, crisp vocals make this a must-have for me and any creator that produces content requiring crystal clear audio. The first step to vocal greatness, this audio interface is affordable and definitely worth the investment. Also, the setup could not be easier, especially for those not as tech-savvy. I cannot recommend this product enough.

12. The HyperX QuadCast S is a USB condenser microphone. This is an excellent tool for any gamer, podcaster, YouTuber, streamer, and more. This microphone both sounds amazing and looks amazing. The dynamic effects / lighting this gives off adds a bit of fun to any setup. Soften any outside interruptions of daily life with the anti-vibration shock mount, as well as the built-in pop filter. The QuadCast is compatible with various platforms, including PC, Mac, and PS4. It’s universal, with four selectable polar patterns: stereo, omnidirectional, cardioid, and bidirectional.

The Review

I really like this one because of how easy it is to use. It’s a USB microphone that can easily plug into my laptop but also has professional capabilities. The audio quality is top-notch, and the lighting element creates a cool vibe. I really appreciate the anti-vibration shock mount as well as the ability to select which area of the microphone receives audio. This has helped me to ensure that a lot of non-essential audio (background noise) doesn’t ever impede on the main audio track for my music and disrupt the experience of my audience. I’ve tried out a handful of microphones over the years, and this one is by far the best one I’ve used so far, both in appearance, quality, and versatility.

13. This Gator Frameworks Creator Tree is the ultimate content creator tool. It’s perfect for keeping your creative station set up, ready to go at a moment’s notice. Everything has a place of its own, and everything can easily be customized to suit any creator’s specific needs. Its space-saving design is a lifesaver and allows you to adhere the creator tree directly to your table or desk. There are so many ways to use this product.

The Review

I can’t say enough good things about this product. I am a huge fan of all-in-one products – but more often than not, all-in-ones can be letdowns. Not the Creator Tree. This thing puts all of your essential tools and accessories at your fingertips, making creating content easier and more convenient than ever before. I truly love that I can leave the setup exactly the way I want it and get the same results quickly each and every time. No more messing around and wasting time to find the perfect angle. Plus, the organization that this product allows is amazing. They really have thought of it all with this product, and I am beyond impressed with how well everything works together. There isn’t one thing that I can think of that would make this any better. It makes me excited to create content each time I have a chance to do so.

14. The AKG Podcaster Essentials is the ultimate podcaster kit. It includes an AKG Lyra USB microphone and AKG K371 headphones, along with Ableton Live 10 Lite audio production software. The microphone captures high quality audio that takes your podcasts to a whole other level, and it has four selectable capture modes: front, front and back, tight stereo, and wide stereo. The headphones are super comfortable, and the closedback, over-ear design provides supreme isolation.

The Review

I’ll be using this kit for my upcoming podcast. What I like about it is that not only does it include the microphone but also noise-canceling headphones and the audio production software. It’s everything you need, conveniently packaged together, which ensures that everything is compatible. Anything I do, I like to do to the best of my ability. If I’m making music, I want it to be at a professional quality. I’m looking for the same thing for my podcast, and this kit is helping me achieve greatness in my newest endeavor.

15. The V-Flat World Foldable V-Flat is a lightweight, portable photo background that can also be used to block and flag light. For this particular set, one side is white to reflect light and the other side is black to block and/or subtract light. The hinged design allows for the set up of various positions, making the process of creating a crisp, clean background simpler than ever before. Each V-Flat comes with a poly cotton tote bag that makes it easy to take with you.

The Review

As someone who takes what seems to be an endless amount of product photos, I love this product. I used to spend so much time worrying about my backdrop and how to make it look as good as possible. Enter this incredible product… I honestly wish I had found this years ago. But never again will I worry about not having enough space to get the perfect shot. Now, I just pop these up on pretty much any surface, set up my lights, and I’m ready to go. The black side subtracts light while the white reflects light, making it easy to get the effect that you want. It also folds up compactly, despite its size, and it is easy to store and transport. This product could not have made things easier in regard to photographing, and I highly recommend it to any fellow content creators; truly a lifesaver.

16. The Moment Wide 18mm Lens is incredibly innovative. It allows you to add a lens to your iPhone’s camera. This wide 18mm lens is brought to you in an aspherical design made from cinema quality glass, providing edge-to-edge clarity for stunning captures. The construction of the lens includes aerospace-grade metal and hand-polished glass that is typically used for high-end 4K film lenses. It may be a lens for your smartphone, but it is a top-tier piece of equipment that allows users to capture enticing, crystal clear footage, all without the bulk and price tag of a camera.

The Review

I was blown away by this 18mm lens. I love how it lets me capture some really stunning, professional-looking images right from the convenience of my smartphone, and more importantly, without the assistance of a DSLR. Sure, DSLRs are incredible, and their quality is top-tier – but on certain occasions, a more casual photographer like myself would rather not lug it and its accessories around. This wide lens attaches right to my phone, and it lets me get edge-to-edge shots that capture two times the scene my smartphone camera would. It doesn’t weigh down my phone, but I can feel the quality whenever the lens is in my hand. Sometimes I do red carpet events where video is needed, and this lens is perfect for capturing that and similar types of content. I’m seriously amazed by this product. It is, however, important to note that you will need to purchase the brand’s case and drop-in lens mount, alongside the lens, as all three work in tandem with one another. That said, buying the entire bundle is worth it.

17. Whether you’re a Twitch streamer or YouTuber, the Razer Kiyo Pro allows you to achieve superior video quality. This Razer Kiyo Pro webcam has an adaptive light sensor, which means excellent performance when it comes to streaming in low light. You can make your video capture pop with more vibrant colors by activating HDR at 30 fps.

The Review

I love this webcam. It works incredibly well in low light situations, while maintaining focus and image quality, which is impressive. I like how the field-of-view can be adjusted from a wide shot to a narrow shot on those days where I’m not feeling like showing off everything in my home. The privacy cover is a definite win for me. I really appreciate the mounting options for this webcam as well. It’s stable and allows for flexibility because you can place it not just on top of a monitor but also on a table or a tripod.

Naomi 'Oami' Pandolfi

Naomi ‘Oami’ Pandolfi

Naomi ‘Oami’ Pandolfi is a producer, journalist, and social media manager. She spends a lot of time filming interviews, product reviews, and creating social media content for a well-known beauty blog. She also works with various production companies to create and pitch original BIPOC TV concepts and films. || Instagram ||

18. Sennheiser’s Memory Mic is a lavalier-style microphone that works in tandem with your smartphone. While recording video on your phone, you can clip this mic to your subject’s clothing or a nearby object and immediately begin recording. The mic itself connects via Bluetooth with unlimited range. It captures audio in stunning high quality and records up to four hours. This mic is perfect for capturing interview footage, and even better, with no wires.

The Review

As someone who has to capture audio for interviews all the time, this product is the answer to my prayers. Instead of having to capture audio on my phone and worry about keeping it as close to the interviewee as possible, this mic makes things so much easier. Plus, I love the one-touch sync feature – it legit syncs the audio and video. Amazing! Plus, it’s super lightweight but sturdy and has no wires to worry about. For such a small device, it really holds a lot of audio – up to four full hours, which is great for me because it means less off-loading of audio in between recording. I love how this works with Bluetooth, which means it can record from a distance. The design is sleek and futuristic. I also love how compact it is. As long as I have this and my smartphone in my bag, I’ll always be interview-ready.

19.The Lume Cube Panel GO packs a powerful punch in a compact size. It’s bright enough to illuminate entire nighttime scenes or eliminate shadows in sunlight, all while being no larger than the size of your smartphone. It’s extremely portable, sturdy, and up for whatever job you can throw at it. This light is also fully customizable, with a wide range of brightness and color adjustability. On the back, there is an LCD screen that’s easy to read. It lets you keep an eye on your customizations and tells you when it’s time to recharge.

The Review

This Lume Cube light is a product that has been an incredible game-changer for me. Instead of having to carry around lights or rely on the generosity of the sun, I can attach one of these compact lights to the top of my camera, and I’m ready to point and shoot or photograph whatever is in front of me. This light works especially well when I have to do interviews on the red carpet or photograph products on-the-go. It completely eliminates the stress of lighting I used to have prior to getting my hands on this product. The battery life is pretty awesome on this light, and also, it’s simple to charge. It can run both on battery and cable power, so if I just plug it in for a few hours, it’ll be good to go for a long time. If you don’t have time to charge it though, no worries; you can use it while it’s plugged in too. They thought of it all with this product.

20.The 2021 Apple iPad Pro 12.9-inch is the best of the best. It has all the bells and whistles of prior generations – but more. It’s better, faster, and unmatched. Its incredible display alone makes it a dream to work with.

Apple iPad Pro 12.9-inch

Apple iPad Pro 12.9-inch

The Review

I do a lot of graphic design work, specifically with programs like Canva, and this iPad has been a lifesaver. A lot of times, when I’m working on smaller, more detailed / drawing work, being able to blow up a tiny portion of an image on my iPad and having the control and precision of the Apple Pencil is a huge advantage.

21. The Apple Pencil, 2nd Generation has revolutionized the way graphic artists work. It makes it easier to work on the go, but besides that, it speeds up overall productivity as well. It’s perhaps the best melding yet of physical meets digital.

The Review

This Apple Pencil has become one of my favorite products, especially when it comes to my graphic design work – whether creating content from scratch for social media or recreating a pitch deck in Canva. This pencil has taken so much frustration out of the process and is enjoyable and addictive to use. I love how easy it is to move things around on the screen in the Canva app. I never again want to work without one of these

22. Canva Pro is a premium web-based design program that gives you access to over 100 million premium royalty-free stock photos, videos, audio, and graphics that can be used anywhere and everywhere. You can create everything from professional Instagram and Facebook stories and posts, to YouTube thumbnails, TikTok videos, and animated social media content. There are hundreds of professional templates and drag-and-drop tools that make this program design-heavy yet user-friendly.

The Review

I absolutely love Canva. It’s really elevated every piece of content I create. Whether I’m making a video outro, an Instagram reel, or polishing up my resume, this program takes everything I do to a whole new level. It makes it easy to create professional quality content without the learning curve of more complex design programs.
