On June 10, TheKnockturnal was at the scene at the Ford Warriors in Pink interactive cooking and mixology class in partnership with the More Good Days initiative.
The event took place at the farm-to-fork café/sustainable cooking school, Haven’s Kitchen. “Warriors in Pink is about driving awareness, and about motivating people to help in the battle against breast cancer, with The Good Day Project, we hope to empower people to take real action and help provide more good days to those living with the disease,” said Tracy Magee, Ford Warriors in Pink brand manager.
Guests mingled and sampled The Warrior in Pink, a signature cocktail made by Haven’s Kitchen exclusively for this initiative. The cocktail includes 1.5 oz of Tequila Blanco, 0.5 oz of Triple Sec, 0.25 oz of maraschino cherry liqueur, 0.75 oz fresh lime juice and 5 dashes of Peychaud’s bitters.
While the ladies prepped for the class, Model of Courage Aimee Bariteau, spoke about her personal experience battling Stage 2 Breast Cancer, and finding her safe haven in comfort food. She now is an avid member of CulinaryCorps, and does an annual trip to Camp Sunshine which is a camp for children with life-threatening illnesses.
Aimee shared some of the most popular recipes amongst Camp Sunshine participants, which all revolved around delicious staple Mexican dishes. Once guests moved to the cooking section, they were separated into four different stations.
The first stop was learning how to shuck an oyster, cascade them with Orange Mignonette, and slurp this sea delicacy. After the time was over, a bell sound would tell participants to move to the next station. There was a ceviche, mojitos, and tortillas/tacos station.
The favorite seemed to be the tacos and tortillas station. Guests learned how to make tortillas from scratch. They pressed, cooked them and paired them up with delicious authentic Mexican fillings such as Chicken Tinga, Poblano + Mushroom, Braised Carnitas, Salsa Verde de Tomatillo, and the crowd’s favorite guacamole.
Aimee, the chefs, and guests all enjoyed themselves while learning how to make more good days for someone who needs it, through delicious home-style cooking. The event also featured a sneak-peek of this year’s apparel line, which includes women’s and men’s clothing and accessories.
