What We Learned From Zack Snyder’s Q&A on Army of the Dead

Army of The Dead’s trailer has finally been revealed this week.

The reveal was followed by a Q&A with Zack Snyder himself as he gave details about the upcoming movie. Zack Snyder has worked on Army of the Dead for an extremely long time, dating back to at least 2007 which was a few years after his directorial debut with 2004’s Dawn of the Dead. After watching the Q&A, here are some nice things and tidbits on what we can expect from Army of The Dead.

Army of The Dead will be released on May 21st, 2021.

Army of the Dead will be released both in the theaters and on Netflix. It will premiere first in the theaters on May 14th, 2021, and arriving on Netflix on May 21st, 2021. That will give the majority of fans an option to see Army of the Dead a week ahead of its Netflix debut or not. So it’s not too long until its anticipated arrival!

The zombies in Army of The Dead are comparable to the ‘Romero-Style’ zombies.

Fans of Night of the Living Dead and Day of the Dead knows George A. Romero’s style of zombies. They bear some intelligence and they are organized and tough. Zack Snyder took some inspiration from Romeo’s style and gave it a twist as you can see in the trailer. They are not Olympic runners per se, but they also have reflexes and can counter during hand-to-hand combat. There is even a zombie tiger too! And that zombie tiger would not be The Walking Dead’s Shiva’s best friend at all.

There are no other cuts or versions of Army of the Dead.

We will not see another #releasethesnydercut movement with Army of the Dead because Zack Snyder confirmed during the Q&A that this cut is the final cut while also throwing shade at Warner Bros about the whole situation with Justice League. That means, the theater and Netflix release is the finished version and that there will not be any other cuts stored away somewhere in a lockbox. Good that Zack Snyder addressed that!

Filming

Also during the Q&A portion, the topic of filming came up. Army of the Dead was filmed at the Atlantic Club Casino Hotel in New Jersey. At the time that they filmed Army of the Dead, the casino was abandoned. It had been closed since 2014 so I can see why they chose to film there to really bring out the post-apocalyptic tone. Zack Snyder also served as the cinematographer as he used custom-made Red Digital Cinema cameras for filming.
