Rhymefest is a prominent musician, songwriter, and advocate who is currently serving as one of the Pritzker Fellows at The University of Chicago this semester.
Over the years, Rhymefest has collaborated with fellow Chicago rapper Kanye West and has released several songs that showcase his lyrical and creative abilities. His influence reaches far beyond the realm of music, as he has played a crucial role in breaking down numerous harmful stereotypes associated with hip-hop. In an interview with The Knockturnal, Rhymefest spoke on how his run for Chicago’s City Council Alderman in 2012 assisted in the opportunity to teach at The University of Chicago. This semester, students will have the opportunity to delve into the origins of the worldwide dissemination of popular culture and its impact on politics. This course aims to provide valuable insights and lessons on how cultural exchange can affect societies and governments.
