Together is the story of a young family trying to survive lockdown. The film stars James McAvoy, Sharon Horgan, and Samuel Logan as a party of three.
There is love, there is hate, there is death, actually, lots of death. It is a beautiful experience and so interesting to explore lockdown or quarantine with other humans. To actually witness it. To witness the fights, the laughs, the fear, and the boredom. We’ve spent the last few years hoarding toilet paper and learning new skills. Appreciating Facetime, DoorDash, and our stimmys.
To watch the rollercoaster relationship between McAvoy and Horgan’s characters as the walls close in on them is fascinating. You’re shaken by the realization that everyone’s experience was so different. Despite all of us being locked inside of our homes. There’s also the added uniqueness that the characters talk directly to the camera so you feel especially included in the chaos.
But look… lockdown wasn’t all doom and gloom… and Zoom. Ok, in real life there was plenty of Zoom.
McAvoy tells The Knockturnal‘s Kinsey Schofield, “I learned how to host a Zoom quiz with 20 odd friends at multiple times, which then became something that nobody wanted to do and nobody ever got back to me whenever I invited them to my Zoom quiz.”
