Rising Memphis star & NLess Entertainment signee Big Homiie G was always destined for greatness. Greatness literally runs in his family. Not only are he and Moneybagg Yo blood cousins, but before launching their solo careers, Big Homiie G, Moneybagg Yo & Blac Youngsta used to be in a rap group.

After seeing his cousin take off, Big Homiie realized with hard work and dedication he could also find success. Shortly thereafter Big Homiie G signed with NBA legend Zach Randolph’s NLess Entertainment. Most recently Homiie delivered a follow up to his last album with the Speak Up G Deluxe which features 9 new songs including two features from K Carbon & Big 30. Speak Up G dropped end of last year and featured collaborations from EST Gee, Finesse2Tymes and Real Boston Richey, with “What Got It” currently sitting at over half a million Spotify streams. Big Homiie G’s most popular song to date is “Tick” with over 4 million Spotify streams, which included Moneybagg Yo, 42 Dugg, & Yo Gotti on the remix and has over 4 million views on the music video alone. We recently caught up with Big Homiie G to discuss how he started making music, his latest project, working with NLess Entertainment and the lessons he’s learned along the way.

The Knockturnal: When did you first start experimenting with music? How old were you?

Big Homiie G: Probably like 16. My first song I ever did was like when I was 16, but I was experimenting before that. That was my first time actually going to buy time at the studio and doing the song.

The Knockturnal: Do you remember how old you were when you like, let’s say freestyles for the first time or wrote a song for the first time?

Big Homiie G: When I was younger, my uncle used to gimme a little money to say a rhyme or bust a rhyme.

The Knockturnal: That kind of leads me into my next question. Was there like anybody in your life motivating you to take music more seriously?

Big Homiie G: Nah, but my uncle used to act like  – say a rap song, come on, he’d be like, that’s me, that’s me. I’m listening, growing up thinking that’s what he do. So he had me thinking I’m doing something my uncle do.

The Knockturnal: So what motivated you personally to take music seriously as a career?

Big Homiie G: I mean, what motivated me was like I really saw Yo Gotti do his thing, but then it was like I saw Bagg do his thing because me and Bagg really slept on the floor together so it’s like, hold up bro gone, Like he getting millions of dollars off this and I can do this same thing. I’m doing the same thing too. I can see it can happen, I just gotta put in the work to make it happen. So that’s what really motivated me, Bagg really.

The Knockturnal: Now, after achieving success, has your family been supportive of your career?

Big Homiie G: For sure. My uncles always callings me, putting me on phone with his friends. Saying this my nephew.

The Knockturnal: So you said you were 16 when you put out your first song? Yeah. You remember what it was called?

Big Homiie G: it was like a song I put out around the hood because one of my friends, he had got a lot of jail time, but I really made the song about him, for him.

The Knockturnal: what happened in between putting out that first song and then deciding that this is your career path? I know you said being around Bagg kind of influenced that, but even before being around him, what made you decide to keep at it with the music?

Big Homiie G: At first I was really shy on it since that was my first song, but then I ended up getting a reaction off of it. Like passing them songs around through the hood and they like, bro you know how to put words together, you can rap and I did another song and another song and another song and then I had a song called “I’m A Star” that took off like in the hood so I just kept on it really.

The Knockturnal: What are you currently promoting right now?

Big Homiie G: I’m promoting  Speak Up G Deluxe off my latest album. I added like nine more songs. I got like two features on it. K Carbon and Big 30.

The Knockturnal: Of the new songs that have been added to the Deluxe which is your favorite or top three?

Big Homiie G: I got a top three. “Drug Talking” with K Carbon, “Repeat” and “Hear Me Now.” “Hear me Now” is my my favorite.

The Knockturnal: Can you tell us about what you’re currently working on, what you have coming down the pipeline?

Big Homiie G: So I got the deluxe out now, but I already got songs that I’m recording for another album that I’m working on, which I don’t have the name for yet, but I’m going through the process of getting the songs ready because I record like every day so it’s like I know what songs I wanna put out and put on the project.

The Knockturnal: Tentatively when do you think your next album will drop?

Big Homiie G: I already got my lead single for my next project. I’m dropping that one in probably like May because this is like a summer vibe song. So yeah, I’m trying to make that like drop that in May and then right after that come with another tape.

The Knockturnal: Who is your favorite feature (you can name a few of your favorite features) and could tell us why?

Big Homiie G: My favorite features be my team, like, people like Bagg or Big 30 or the people in my label because I really know them so we have a bond, like we kick it, like we play, we wrestle.

The Knockturnal: Who’s your dream collab?

Big Homiie G: I wanna work with Bryson Tiller and Burna Boy.

The Knockturnal: How does it feel having Moneybagg Yo as a cousin and someone you can go to when it comes to the music?

Big Homiie G: it really feel good. Like we kind of piggyback off each other. Like if he need help with something, I help him with it. if I got a question and I need help with something, he help me with it, so it’s just a great thing and he just became who he is, but it’s a good thing to have somebody like that in your family.

The Knockturnal: What is the most important thing you’ve learned from him and the most important thing that you feel he’s learned from you?

Big Homiie G: You know we based on loyalty so it’s like you gotta stick to what you say, like you gotta stand on we built off love and loyalty, so it’s like, I gotta stand on my word. He gotta stand on his.

The Knockturnal: How does it feel to be signed to Zach Randolph’s Nless Entertainment?

Big Homiie G: Zach Randolph and Marcus Howell, that’s Zack best friend, so it’s like a family thing. They signed Bagg first and then it was me. We met them at a time where – I ain’t gonna say so much of struggling, but we was just living wild, so it’s like when we met them we straightened up. We can’t play with this money they giving us, they making sure we straight. it was like God was putting his hands on us and it was like – And Zebo is the type of person, like he real humble, he works so much, but he’s a humble guy and I always tell him like right to this day I be like big bro, when I grow up I wanna be like you and that’s the truth because he’s so humble. You wouldn’t even be able to tell if walked in right now, like you wouldn’t be able to tell how much he’s worth.

The Knockturnal: What’s the most important lesson you’ve learned by being around him?

Big Homiie G: Just how to stay grounded and balanced. He’s a busy man, but he still make time for his family, his kids. I learned  balance from him.
