Anatomy of a Fall has won not one, but two awards at the 33rd Annual Gotham Awards, live from Cipriani Wall Street on Monday night.  Justine Triet’s and Arthur Harari’s gripping film has won Best International Feature and Best Screenplay, both selected by a panel of numerous industry professionals.

Anatomy of a Fall, a French thriller, revolves around the investigation of a man’s death, in which he is found unresponsive below his and his wife’s chalet in the French Alps. His wife becomes the main suspect in the alleged murder, and the courtroom thoroughly dissects the unsettling details of their relationship.

Harari, a Parisian, has had a passion for film since he was a child and knew filmmaking was his calling from a very young age.

“I wanted to make films when I was nine because I discovered with my older brother all the Warner Bros. films in a retrospective in Paris,” Harari said. “I saw this Humphrey Bogart film, and I fell in love with films, and so we decided, both of us, that that’s what we wanted to make.”

Triet and Harari have worked together on numerous projects throughout the years, as they are romantically involved and have two children together. When asked about what his collaborative process was like with his partner when writing Anatomy of a Fall, he says that there were many emotions involved:

“It was mixed with all the other collaborations when you’re living together,” Harari said. “It was great, difficult, long, stressful, exciting, and very rewarding at the end.”

What’s next for him? He says that he is looking forward to directing a film next year with Triet, and he’s excited to see what’s yet to come.
