Custo Barcelona debuted his Fall/Winter 2017 collection for New York Fashion Week at Pier 59 studios and the collection takes you to outer space. Self-proclaimed Light Years, the show and the clothes were an ode to individuality and “shining the light.”
Brothers Custo and David Dalmau created the brand in the 80’s after having travelled the world. They gained inspiration from the many landscapes they have seen and it comes out in the clothes they make.
One of the first looks they debuted was a spunky metallic, off the shoulder, bodycon dress with pointy shoulder heads and raised metallics to add that landscape inspiration.
Other looks were made from laminated fabrics like jackets, pants, and skirts, had a lot of metal glitter, lurex, and stones, among other materials. Custo Barcelona was not shy in pairing different materials and patterns together or on top of one another.
Every look gave a high-fashion, extra-terrestrial vibe. Hot pink and metallic purple was present in many of the dresses. Men wore oversized coats and metallic or leather pants. Many of the coats were macro inflated, so if anyone was wearing one of his dresses underneath, they would’ve been kept warm.
This F/W 17 collection was vibrant, progressive, and popped, unlike his past shows where the looks were more laid-back.
Custo’s collection was innovative, original, and really was “shining the light” through his choice of bright metallic colors and fabrics.
The brand always manages to make their runways fun. Whether it’s through song choice or clothing, the vibe is upbeat.
