On Friday, October 2nd, top EDM artist Zedd blew away the Madison Square Garden crowd with his amazing tunes and skills.
Zedd’s tour, True Colors, has been a huge success. The talent showcased that night was unbelievable. From the opening act all the way to the last song of the concert, the audience was on their feet and ready to dance the night away.
The British duo, AlunaGeorge, delighted us with their killer vocals and upbeat songs as the first opening act of the night. The stage was set up for singer Aluna Francis to dance and jump while George Reid and Frances Noon took care of the tunes. The background screen was black and had their logo in white letters as well as white drawings of wolves. They performed some of their most well-known songs such as “Your Drums Your Love”, “Attracting Flies”, “White Noise” and of course the song everyone was waiting for “You Know You Like It”.
French DJ Madeon was next on stage. Although he is 21 years old, he has made major waves in the industry. This young sensation has true talent and drove the crowd to shout and fist pump like there’s no tomorrow. The energy of the songs was fed with an awesome light show on stage, which created an amazing atmosphere. He opened with his most famous song “You’re on”. He then followed with “Ok”, “The City”, “Pay No Mind”, and many others from his album Adventure. He left the stage by playing his mash up “Pop Culture”, which got more than 30 million views on YouTube.
A few minutes after Madeon’s departure it was the moment we were all waiting for. The lights went off and the crowd started roaring. The song “Addicted to a Memory” began to play in pure darkness until the beat dropped and the stage lit up like a ball of fire. The audience began to jump and scream as they saw Zedd on the stage. He was high above, consumed by the big screen behind him. “Beautiful Now” played after, now with his colorful logo on the screen pulsing with the beat. He mixed some snippets of popular songs until he played “Rude”, where colorful strings where shot towards the audience. Each song was greater than the other. The music combined beautifully with the play of lights and lasers as well as fire, strings and fireworks. What was also great about this concert is that this Russian-German talent really knew how to diversify his tunes in order to reach every member of the audience, by playing some Trap music, Rap, even a little bit of Reggeaton.
Zedd played his top songs such as “Bad”, “Break Free”, “Illusion”, “I Want you to Know”, “Stay the Night”, and “Clarity” to which he made the audience sing along. There were also some Daft Punk songs being played such as “One More Time” or mixed with his songs, as was the case with “Break Free”. Towards the end of the concert, he threw us back to one of his mixes from 2011, “The Legend of Zelda”, which made us feel like we were inside of the video game itself. “Bang Bang” went on, and with the help of laser lights going from one side to the other, every person began to imitate this motion making the whole crowd move their arms from left to right. The incredible DJ brought the night to an end by playing his song “Alive”, to which the audience sang so loudly, their voices almost drowned the song. Fireworks went off, confetti fell from the ceiling and as Zedd thanked everyone for coming fire went off, then the stage blacked out.
There is no doubt why this artist has obtained the level of fame and recognition he has. He is a true genius when it comes to producing and deejaying. Zedd has shown his true colors on stage by exceeding the audience’s expectations.
