The Knockturnal had the privilege of attending the premiere and after party of Bryan Greenbergโs new film, Junction. The film stars Bryan Greenberg, Ashley Madekwe, Sophia Bush, Ryan Eggold, Jamie Chung, Josh Peck, Hill Harper, Michaela Conlin, Eddie Kaye Thomas, Dash Mihok, Dascha Polanco, Nichelle Hines, Yara Martinez, Griffin Dunne, and more! Greenberg wrote, directed, and starred in the film inspired by his own experience with opioids. Junction portrays the opioid epidemic through three different perspectives. Through each character, the audience learns more about how the opioid crisis came to be. Greenberg himself plays the patient that is struggling with addiction after being prescribed oxycodone. The story follows Greenberg as his addiction begins to affect all areas of his life, especially his relationships. Ashley Madekwe plays Mary, a doctor whose practice is benefitting from prescribing opioids. The film portrays the complexity of the doctorโs moral dilemma – if she continues to prescribe opioids, she will be able to afford her daughterโs college tuition. However, she knows that her patients are feigning symptoms in order to get prescriptions they do not need. The third point of view is told through the father Lawrence, played by Griffin Dunne, and son, Jacob played by Ryan Eggold, who own the drug company that is contributing to the crisis. The story keeps the audience on their toes as they anticipate the three storylines intertwining. The film brings awareness to the opioid crisis and humanizes the victims that we often think of as statistics. After the screening, there was a Q&A with the cast. The after party was held at Members where drinks and cocktails were served in celebration of the movieโs successful opening.
