Weekend Review: The Knockturnal attended Audible’s Story House, an immersive celebration of audio storytelling at its first-ever “bookless bookstore” concept this past Thursday at 260 Bowery. The experience transforms how audiences engage with narrative through sound, space, and imagination.
Audible Story House spans three floors and features seven curated listening environments, “Story Tenders” guiding personalized audio journeys, and tactile “story tiles” used to explore titles. The activation also includes Dolby Atmos sound, Sony headphones, and interactive creative stations including postcard-making and art experiences.
A highlight of the evening was connecting with Erika Alexander, who spoke about her acclaimed Audible original Finding Tamika, a DuPont-Columbia Award-winning series exploring the disappearance of Tamika Huston and systemic media bias. She also discussed ReLiving Single, co-hosted with Kim Coles, revisiting the legacy of Living Single.
Alexander is also currently starring in NBC’s comedy series The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins alongside Tracy Morgan.
Another standout activation was inner Light Aura, offering aura photography that visualizes personal energy fields. My portrait revealed a vibrant mix of colors, creating a reflective moment within the experience.
From radio’s golden age to today’s digital landscape, audio storytelling continues to evolve. Once shifted to a more personal medium after television’s rise in the 1950s, it remains deeply impactful.
Audible Story House reflects that evolution bridging sound, culture, and community. Open May 1–31, Wednesdays through Sundays, 11 AM–7 PM, at 260 Bowery open to the Public.
Listening remains one of the most powerful tools for storytelling, and it continues to shape my work in deeper ways. Thank you Audible for the invitation.
